Lost Locking Wheel Nut Key...

Hi guys,

I got myself a pucture the other day, and in my rush changing the wheel on the side of the road, I have lost the key for my wheel nuts.

It's the standard type that seems to have come with most Gen 6's, the 3 prong socket type.

Anyone know how I can get a replacement key or get these things off so I can get a new set of nuts on?

Thanks for any help

Andrew

There is various sockets that can get them off. Do they have the sleve that spins on the out side or not?

If they don't have the sleve then you can get a socket which basically screws on and cuts a thread on to it - do a search on here as it's been discussed before.

The other type is the "magic" sockets which fit any size bolt etc, they have loads of sprung loaded pins - these work a treat at getting them off but you do tend to destroy the socket whilst doing it.

Have you been back and looked to see if it's just at the side of the road??

Yes, they have the annoying spinners on the outside.. Went back to the road side this moring but there's nothing there, I as hopeful but disapointed.

I'll try and find one of these pin sockets. I've heard of them before but thought they may not be strong enough.

Thanks for the help!

I guess the next question is does anyone know the size of stud I need to get? I'll need some new locking nuts to replace these!

Thanks again

Andrew

The pin sockets *should* do it - but I've only used them on ones without the spinners on the outside so it had a bit more grip. As I said though it was knackered at the end - as the internals weren't strong enough and bent etc but it did the job.

If all else fails I guess a chisel on an angle would probably do it but just be careful of the wheels!!

borrow a metal detector and return to the area , you may just find it .
