Discs All Round?

hi,

From another thread over on Celica tech I seemed to understand that 90-91 Gen5s had drum brakes on the rear.

Brake spec info

Front Brakes

90-91 Rotors (GT, Convertible, GT-S)

Brembo Part number: 25439

Overall Diameter: 255mm

92-93 Rotors (GT-S, GT, and all ST185 USDM)

Brembo Part number: 25440

Overall Diameter: 277mm

Rear Brakes

90-91 Drums (non-GTS)

Brembo Part number: 21069

92-93 Rotors (All GT-S)

Brembo Part number: 25160

Overall Diameter: 269mm

Is this so as my 90 has discs?

Sorry no idea - I thought all gen5's and gen6's had discs all round but I would only have presumed with the gen 5's

It does only say non-GTS models had drums - is yours a GTS?

I;m trying to identify my import at the moment and Dak has been a grat help but we are no nearer.

I was begining to suspect a GTS, but up till now had not heard of this model and so am in the dark.

The VIN is on the VIN plate and on the bulkhead but not on the dash as others have reported theirs.

Mine has 7x15 wheels fitted as did the GTS apparently to clear the discs.

only these 2 models GT-R , and gt-r 4WS equipped car had the frame BLMVF , both have discs all round.

isnt celica tech an american site , therefore models shipped to the usa are tottally different anyways

AFAIK Celicas for the US and Canadian markets were actually built in the US. Not sure if thats all of them or just a proportion. Models for UK, Asia and europe were all equiped with discs.... I think. Real head scratcher. Nice one John.

I'm fairly sure all the 2 litre gen 5 variants (excluding maybe the GT-4??) have the same rear brakes - drums for the handbrake with an outer disc/caliper arrangement for the footbrake. I think the fronts are the only brake related part that was changed in the facelift - early models have 255m discs, later models 277m discs.

The shoes should never wear out (assuming the handbrake is only used when stationary) - but the disc/drum is all one assembly so you have to replace it when the rear discs are shot.

my local MrT parts dept. did a quick check for me and came up with GT-R for my frame number.

So I guess this is what it is.

I will still try to get some history as this car came to me rather anonymously
