Could anyone be so kind as to tell me how easy it is to replace the upper ball joint. Pictures / Diagrams if possible.

Even if someone has a link to a site that would tell me.

AFAIK it is not replaceable and is part of the strut. are you sure its not control arm no1 or the fig 8 thats gone, quite rare for the top joint to wear

you remove the circlip , hit the ball joint up and out with a hammer , maybe not that easy though, insert the new ball joint and replace a new circlip , supplied with ball joint , order 1 from tcb here - http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/

You will need to remove the whole shocker to replace the ball joint, i did it myself not to bad a job but getting the arms back into place is a pain and getting the new joint in you'll definitely need a press of some kind good luck with it.
