What's the knocking linked to bumps, corners, braking etc??

with superstrut it could be a number of things..s

ARB bushes, top mounts, upper ball joint, lower arms, fig 8's...

well moving right, going over bumps braking and pulling away.

prob just take to a garage

jack the car up and take off the wheel. You should be able to see the arb follow it along to the bush mounted to the subframe. If it looks like theres a small gap around the bar the bush needs replacing.

Next grab hold of the brake caliper and watch the fig 8 area try and move the caliper in a kind of up and back direction and check for any play in the fig 8/lower arm. Also check for play in the upper ball joint.

pop the bonnet and have a good look at the top mounts any cracks and their on the way out.

I hand knocking on mine over compressions and some bits of uneven road while cornering turned out to be the ARB bushes which are under a tenner from toyota and take about 30mins to fit, you'll need small hands mind.

sounds like a spring to me ???????????

superstrut would be dangerously %$(ed if it sounds like that static

if it is the arms replace both fig 8 and lower arm . give tcb a ring http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/

could be a spring i couldnt really say where its coming from,as when the wheels off i cant make it do the noise.

when the cars still,it makes the sound if i push down on the front or get it/out of the car.

i dont like phoning companies that i wouldnt take my car too,if you get what im saying as they wouldnt get anything out of it from helping me.

might give the local dealership a bell,as i need new brakes all round as well.

get underneath with a pry bar and try getting fig 8 to move with it knocking that much you should be able to see the flex.

Other thing to check is the subframe mount bush for the rear arm. If it's broken it causes all sorts of nasty knocking noises. Has to be replaced from above so need to drop the subframe to get the new one in.

In fact if I remember correctly there was a bloke on GT4OC that traced his knocking to the rear arm bush and said that you can only get it to knock with the wheel on the floor. Sounds very much like your problem??

hmmm well im pretty sure its coming from the bit i circled.it does move when im jacking it up,like i was in the vid.

only knocks when the wheels on because i cant push the car down while its jacked up,but makes it when jacking up

Does the car pull to one side when braking hard, then the other when accelerating hard??

If it does it deffo a knacker fig8/front arm...

fig8 on tcbparts is about 65 pounds

I think i've got the same problem. I drive an import Levin(ae111) which also has the SS setup.

My car did it's NCT today, similar to an MOT, and failed. The tester marked the worn parts with white paint so i could easily find where the problem was. It looks like it's only the fig8 link. Problems with superstrut can be seriously expensive.

I've got the car booked into my local Toyota dealer 2moro for them to check which parts are needed- they said they won't order any special order parts without one of their mechanics being sure of whats needed first. Was talking to the guy at the service desk and he said that a previous Levin had a problem and it cost him over 1000euro to sort it. he had to replace a suspension arm or something similar.

I'll let you know what horror story i have 2moro evening.

Fig 8 is about £60-70 front arm is about £260 from TCB etc. Toyota dealer cost more for parts and will charge you a fair bit to fit, normal estimate is around £500 a side from toyota dealers.

Better of doing it yourself or going to an independant garage like Millway(Andover) or Ian@Toyauto Centre(Nottingham)

Yeah, 500 per side is the info I got from the main dealer. Unfortuneatley it seems the only place to get parts from over here. My plan was to try getting the parts only through the main dealer and then getting a local garage to fit them.

One of the local garages in my town is fairly reliable and the lads there usually work on imports. One drives a Glanza, another drives a 200sx and another drives a mazda mx-3. So these guys seem to know their stuff with regard to imports.

I've got it booked in2 Toyota later today for a check on the parts needed- i don't think they'll be too pleased when I tell them I don't want them to do the work- but hey, it's my car and my choice not to pay those seriously high prices.

Main parts are usually fig8 link and front arm.

TCB

Fig 8 £64.96

Front Arm £229.13

Or paul at whifbitz is usually a bit cheaper but you'll have to wait as in gets the parts in from japan to order.

Both will be cheaper than MR T.

Never rains but it pours... :crybaby:

Where do you live could be worth taking it to an independant to get it checked and do instead of the toyota garage?

Just had my Levin into MrT.

It's only the fig8 link which is gonna cost me about 90euro(~63st) for the part. They should have it for me by this Saturday.

I'm gonna get a local garage to change it on Monday if they can't fit it in on Saturday.

I'm delighted it's nothing else- the mechanic assured me that it was definately the only part needed to sort the problem. They didn't seem too pleased when I told them that I only wanted the parts from them. After that, they wanted to charge me for inspecting the car. Luckily the guy at the services dept let me off with it cos they'd me waiting for over an hour- half of which my car wasn't looked at.

Nice one!

dont be suprised if it still knocks soon after changing just the fig 8 arm .

the 2 arms are joined and wear together. BUT you may be lucky ??????

mine had knocking from the front end - mainly when travelling slow and the car jolting - pulling away - going over bumps etc - was my lower arm and fig 8 link! had the passenger side fixed then the drivers side went!!! If this is the case TCB are pretty good with the parts £305.50 including delivery for one lower arm and fig 8 link.
