Insurance And More For An Avensis-02

Hi Everyone

Im picking up an Avensis 1.8 VVTi GS 2002 on Friday or Saturday. :D

I am currently looking at quotes from different insurance companies. The car is fitted with an immobilizer and remote locking. Does that qualify above as anything else than "Standard Fit"?

Is there anything I shall watch extra carefully before shelling out my money? I will be looking at the service manual and make sure that AC/SAT etc works. I am aware of the possible oil-leakage problems

Also does anyone know what kind of SAT-NAV its fitted with? Its some kind of monocrome build in the stereo with the disc reader in the boot.

Cheers

Hi Dr Roy, welcome!

I think it should have a an alarm as well, mine did. Way to check is pull the bonnet relase lever under the dash but don't actually open the bonnet. Then shut all the dooors, lock the car up with the remote and THEN open the bonnet, which should trigger the alarm if fitted.

Checked it on the Thatcham web site, and they specified that it was graded as Cat1. Told my insurance company this and provided a link to the relevant page and they were happy. Check here http://www.thatcham.org/security/index.jsp...e=75&c=cat1 there is a link to a PDF giving the catagory for each car.

Just checked Parkers, and the 2002 GS model does an alarm, this means that it's a Toyota TVSS IVS, which is Cat1 which should make your insurer happy.

The sat nav will be a TNS200, and at that age of car the data CD will be pretty out of date as well. I have it in mine and to be honest I prefer my TomTom, but it's better than nothing if you're absolutely lost.

Hope this helps.

Mike.
