I was wondeing if anyone could help me.........

my ****y netgear router has died (more specificly, the modem in it has died) leaving me with only one pc in the house with boradband.... the router still works as a network router, it just can't/won't dial up (yes I have checked all the settings, the internet light doesn't even work on the initial turn on test).

Now I can dial up on my desktop, turn on connection sharing and the laptop will hapilly share the internet connection fora few minutes, then it all locks up... I have even tried turning off firewalls!!!! is there a specific way of doing it so that it works reliably?? (other then buy a new router)

Should work like you did it,

Just get a new router :P EBuyer had Wired Gateway Routers on Special offer yesterday or the day before for £9.00 - Think they're up to £14 now but still not bad if you don't use wireless (which you probably do with a laptop)

Are you using the router as a switch to connect the laptop and the computer?

If yes make sure DHCP is disabled on the router as once you enable ICS the pc becomes a DHCP server -having 2 is just going to cause problems!

If that doesnt work theres a couple of things you can try....

or give all computers a static ip and install freeproxy

enabling ICS will disable IIS or anything like it
