i lowered mine about 10k miles ago on PI springs. no problem with warranty issues . but if the shocks go i will have to pay for new. they cost about £90 and £150ish fitting at a local garage. get a price from toyota for tte supplied and fitted... you will be shocked... :!Removed!:

I heard the opposite - you can only fit TTE products and not void the warranty

Im sure some will pop up on eBay  you just have to wait but it's worth it for the amount you save

I saved £250 on my bluetooth Kit

if you use lowering springs on standard shocks, even if they are tte , you will get premature failure of the shock, normally the seal. this is because the shock is pre-compressed by the amount you are lowering the car. ie ,35mm.

I've got them on my T3 and it's certainly a lot crisper in cornering and general stability, but you do notice the bumps a bit more and I find I have to go quite slow over speed bumps. Haven't grounded yet so guess it's not too low.

Bert.tsport how do you know if the shocks are suffering are there any tell tale visible / audible signs? It's a bit cheeky of TTE to sell add ons like this if they can cause premature failure of a shock!

Anybody got TTE springs on and are having problems??

Cheers all

It's not cheeky of TTE at all - simple fact is standard shocks are designed for standard springs, shortened shocks are deisgned for shorter springs!

Take your point but for the non technical people like me I wouldn't know about shortened shocks. I only bought TTE because they actually say on their web site that they are developed for use with original shocks...no where do they say about using shortened shocks, or advising of possible problems. I also specifically asked three local dealers whether I needed to do anything else to the car when installing these springs and all said no they will work with stock shocks. Please don't think I'm having a go (i'm not promise), but I do feel that as I don't know about this particular subject I look to dealers to advise correctly - I would have put shortened shocks on at the same time (seeing as everything has to come off anyway) to avoid further costs at a later date.

TTE is part of Toyota so I suppose that's why I think its a bit cheeky sorry!

Fair point - it does seem a bit like pulling the wool over peoples eyes! Don't worry they're not going to wreck your shocks. They will wear prematurely, but nothing drastic.

how does the ride feel when you're carrying 4 people in the car or have something heavy in the boot? i'm asking this since i am tempted to lower my car, but several times i have like 4 people in the car and don't want to ruin the ride...

tte spring are fine i had them for 3 full year's they will NOT reduce shock's life at all, just remember never drive fast over speed bump's on any setup they do more damage to you shock's then any tte spring's ever will.

when i say premature wear, i mean the shocks will only last 70k miles instead of 100k miles....

when they are knackered, the wheel will bounce up and down when driving at speed. the ride will feel cr*p... its not like they will suddenly fail , so dont worry.

I don't think the shock absorber is going to fail because it is too long :D

It doesn't make any difference to the wear whether the shock is working at one end of its range or the other. What people do not realise is that for optimum damping (ie. no rebound wobble) the shock damping force must be 'matched' to the spring.

This is the case for the standard Corolla suspension. When you add stiffer springs of any kind there is rebound after a bump which causes the shock absorber piston to travel further in total up and down the cylinder (the wheel/chassis moves further in total too, of course).

That is why shocks wear a little bit faster if the springs are too stiff for them. The only fix is a stiffer shock which can contain the rebound.

Paul.
