What Should I Do

(copied from mr2 section)

As some of you might know my tubby is dying a slow painful death, and as i've had it over 4 years and spent a fortune on it i'm calling it quits and getting a newish car.

It leaks oil and black smoke comes out of it when you even slighty touch the accelerator, oh and the ecu fault light comes on and it even tells me it's over heating with the buzzer warning your hear from the engine too, but when i check it out it's fine, and when i turn the ignition back on the temp is fine

I cant moan because i have treated it like poo doing all the track days I do.... and basically nurburgring finished it off....

So theres no way i'm selling it, I'll have to much of a guilty concious bodging it up, and then sticking "one careful driver" in autotrader :P

my options are:

Px it; they will give me f all for it probably 1k.

or strip it down...... obviously i wont be selling the engine.

if you peeps where in the same situation as me what would you do???

What are the chances of getting a replacement engine?..........................Better the devil you know and it could work out cheaper than a total replacement if your existing cars body is sound.

I presume that you'd strip it down and sell the parts? (just making sure) If you do, seems like a good idea - is there a good enough demand for the parts? Don't want to strip it and then not shift anything..

There is always a demand for MR2 parts..

Stripping might well be the way forward... so long as you have the time etc...

no its deffently going.

I'm not paying a single penny more on it, its had countless replacement gearbox'es and i'm already on the third engine, there built strong for normal road use, but on the track things seems to break rather easily

Stripping down for parts would probably be the best idea but i'm not crying out for cash and I aint exactly got room on the driveway for a rotting chassis if you know what i mean.........

If i wanted to carry on doing my trackdays then i've got no problem getting another car as it only takes a couple of laps to learn the limitaions. :driving:

Anyways.... I think i'm getting old as i'm dead set on getting a hassle free car which will never see a track.

Why don't you just get a recent Jap hot hatch and have a hassle-free car you can use on the track?

Paul.
