Hi guys, I have a Gen 6 Celica ® reg. Just wondering if wheels from the new celica will fit and will 18" wheels catch the arches.

Mine is dropped 30mm and I have 18's with 225/40's. No rubbing. If I buy more alloys I think I will go for 17's, I think 18's are a little twitchy.

mines on 18's too with no problems

Hi - stupid question, but how does one "lower" a car? Ie. if I went out

and bought 18inch wheels for my celica gen 6, what do I tell the garage

that will fit them do I tell them to lower my car 40mm? How much does it cost?

To lower the car you need to buy some different suspension parts. You can get away with just a set of lowering springs (which are shorter but firmer) but a lot of people get a new set of shocks at the same time.

Once the car is lowered though standard tracking checks won't work and you have to go to a specialist to get the geometery of the car set up - otherwise you will just eat through tyres.

The cheaper way is to fill the boot with bricks

I had mine lowered on PI lowering springs. At a garage it was £200 to supply and fit the springs. You can get the springs off eBay for around £80-£120 i think.

mmm... another excuse to post a pic i think

Here is pics of my GT with 18s lowered 40mm:

Slight change of subject...

I have just got a 'bog standard' Gen6 and it needed 4 new tyres. The bloke at the fitting place said it already had (and needed) different size tyres on the standard alloys, front and back. So, he fitted 195's on the front and 205's on the back. I can find no reference to mixed tyre sizes on a Gen6 anywhere...

Does anybody here know if it is ok to have different size tyres on the front and back?

Cheers.

Yep as above totally wrong, get the same size all round.

My mate bought an S3 which has 225's on the front and 255's on the rear. The seller said it was simply the look he preferred. At least that was a four wheel drive. The only reason I can think for this is purely cosmetic as said above it's a front wheel drive.

Me I prefer same all round
