Bugger

Got towed home today after the starter motor wouldn't turn and back to the old click. Changed to a new relay and still no joy. I need to get the starter out but seems fairly packed in. How do I get to the mounting bolts? Do I jack the car up? Any special tools (my short 3/8" drive apears to have no room for manuover or get square on. Remember that I am currently sporting a broken neck, so easiest and less stressful please. Sorry but I need to get it sorted ASAP.

Kindest regards

Michael

Cheers

I have done it now and cured the problem for good. I got the starter out from above, I had to cut my 14 mm combo spanner in half. Stretched to get the wires disconnected but the sod came out by lowering to floor. The back of my hands are in shreds. Once i got the starter on thebenchI removed the solenoid cover and after withdrawing the big sliding trigger, I saw the contacts worn. One was so bad that it was as thin as a hair. I tried to get some 2 mm copper sheet to make some more but the lady at the bolt and metal shop had none. I then got a pre 1988 2 pence piece and made one from that ( I have taken photos to prove). Blow me it worked perfectly on the bench test! Took me over an hour to get it back on. Started on first switching. Brilliant! I am still using the Karma relay to get more juice to it though but it will start ok without it.

Drove to give it a wash and some 99 octane super unleaded. On way bak the engine warning light came on and the car wouldn't rev over 2000 rpm. Started it this morning checked all the fluids and the wires and seems to be ok, mind you I only went 15 feet in it. I am off now to watch the England game on an 18th century 3 masted whaling ship (free tea and stickies provided). It is docked in the Albert dock in Liverpool, VIP's only so I am looking forward to that although I am not that interested in the football. I will NOT be driving there but getting the train as I might have the odd dry sherry.

Regards
