Decat Mot Question

Hi

Another question about the st185 GT4 I'm looking at a 1990 GT4 and it has a decat pipe.

I just wonder if due to the cars age will this pass the MOT without the hassle of replacing the cat, from what I've read this seems to be a bit of a grey area, I just wonder if anyone has any experience with this problem or can clarify things for me?

Thanks

That should be old enough to not require a Catalytic Convertor. I think it was J reg that they had to be fitted - so it would be fine

Since January 1993, it has been compulsory for new cars sold in Britain to have catalytic converters.

Many older cars also have them.

The MOT regulations say nothing about a vehicle having a catalytic converter fitted. They merely set emission levels which have to be achieved if the vehicle is first used after a specific year.

Certainly some cars with very efficient engines could achieve the required emission levels without a catalytic converter. Hope that helps.
