00 Corolla Not Starting

Now that the hot weather has finally arrived, my Corolla refuses to start. It's perfectly OK first thing in the morning, but after baking all day in the car park it just sits there. Turn the key and all the electrics come on, but when I try to start the engine - nothing! Not a sound. No clicks, whirrs or pops! Leave it a while until the shade of the nearest building comes over and then it starts. I'm no mechanic but it sounds like an electrical contact warping with the heat. I got fed up with it yesterday and called out the AA. By the time they arrived it had cooled down and it started. The AA man reckoned it was the starter motor. Any ideas?
