Right.. I Gots Me A Gt4 205!

Allo peeps,

A some of you know from my thread in general.. just bought myself a import 205.

I know the usual figure 8's etc.. and the fact the the clutch is a git to change etc.

My car has done almost 72k and has had its cambelt changed already. It has a cat back custom zorst which likes to pop and bang every now and again. Sounds great but just a tad too loud for me...

Its boosting just over 12Psi and holding throughout all the rev range and there are no other performance mods. Has a boost gauge in place of the drivers side air vent.

The raise blocks are afetr market and im ideally wanting genuine black or silver ones so where is the best place to get em from at a half decent price?

The rims are 17" gram lights I think and could do with a refurb but i aint too fussed at the mo. I wouldnt mind a spare set of originals for the winter if anyone has a set that they dont want.

Its had the camber Control Link replaced only last month and the parts alone cost £180 for the pair along with a new radiator £135! (dunno why he just didnt buy a reconditioned one..

So what little things compartments, hints, tips etc about the car should i be aware off?

Congrats on the purchase, and good choice :D

You've mentioned most of the usual stuff I know, only thing i'd add is the rear diff mount seems to be a weak point as a few need them replacing (like mine!:huh: )

Apart from that, enjoy the grip/power :D

£135 for a new rad is cheap. TCB (toyota celica breakers) charge about £150 incl shipping and toyota want about £270!!!!

12 psi sounds like its running stock boost.

if its a blitz Nur spec see if it has the decibel insert in (like a plate that fits in the tail with a smaller hole in) if you havent try and get one if the noise is too bad.

raiser blocks, again TCB. think they do copies but they arnt bad quality, they will need spaying though.

instead of getting an induction kit get a replacement panel filter, you can get a HKS, TRD or a green one. youll get a better power increase with one of these than an induction kit that isnt sheilded from the hot engine bay air.

dont be tempted with a bleed, relief or grainger valve if you want more boost. get a proper electronic boost controller.

if you want the car looking over, i can reccomend ian smith at the toyauto centre.he soley deals with GT4s and knows pretty much any thing there is to know about them. he does a vehicle report fo about £40 IIRC but this is refundable if you have any problems found fixed there.

dont worry though he dosnt rip people off, if he says somthing needs fixing , it will. he is based in nottingham about 10mins from JCT 26 M1 or call on 0115 9787844.

other than that you seem to know the main gt4 probs

I will be wanting some of you lads in the know to have a look around my car and give me your feedback on what its like.

Will catch you there fella..

With regards to the compariseon.. i am afraid to say yes it does feel a fair bit slower than the tubby on take off. midrange seems on par and top end feels slower.. now i dont know if that is down to the aerodynamics or the weight of the GT4 once at speed.

I wish I had both in the drive and be able to choose which one i took out on a morning. :(

In all honesty the MR2 is a lot more fun without doubt... the GT4 just seems very 'safe' compared to it.

silly question... but how often do you guys launch it from the lights and how long with the clutch last?

The Mr2 used to be great for getting a good launch from about 3k rpm but the GT4 seems to eat away at the clutch a hell of a lot more..

Im scared to do it now..

I do like to launch it every now and again :D

normally from around 3.5k to 4k rpm and it dont half shift!!

I dont do it that often, maybe once or twice a week? i dunno really, not counted

You can eat a stock clutch pretty quickly ive heard..... i've got an uprated clutch waiting to go in to help this :thumbsup:

Looks very nice; for a G6 - prefer the 5 myself :-;)

Noticed the point about you perhaps taking it to Ian in Nottingham. If you ever do need to take it there, and have to leave it with him for any time, let me know; I don't' live far from there, and regularly travel up to Leeds/Bradford to see friends and family, so I might be good for a lift if you need one.
