Replacing Multi Belt --> Special Tool?

:help:

Hi there,

I never thought I'd ask this silly question. Anyway, here it comes:

Does anyone know how to replace the multi belt (alt, waterpump, aircon etc) on an 2001 Avensis 1.6 vvt-i?

I looked down there and I found the tensioner. Problem is: how to losen th tensioner? There appears to be some sort of bolt or something at the centre but a regular wrench won't fit. Do I need a special tool or so?

Any pics maybe?

Thanks in advance!

Do you mean that there isn't enough space to fit a regular wrench?

The idler wheel (tensioner wheel) on the 2000 Air-Con belt needs a 14mm ring spanner to unlock it from its spindle:

one of these or similar. It can be quite difficult to use a socket set on some of these nuts.

You'll need a long 19mm spanner/power bar with 19mm socket. Dont turn the securing bolt (17mm) 'cos this will slacken the full tensioner from the engine block but pull the spanner/power bar towards u on the 19mm. This releases the tension. Slip the belt from the alternator and remove. Its best to 'doodle' a diagram of the belt route so its easier to refit. Once belt is off, pull the bar towards u 3 times to 'prime' the tensioner and start fitting the belt leaving the alternator pulley til last. Its easier to slip belt over it. Pull the spanner/power bar towards u again to release tension and slip belt onto alternator pulley. Once fitted, check belt is inline on all pulleys.
