60 Seconds To Brake Into A Corolla

Just reading through today's paper and they had an article on car security. The Which? magazine has run an article on security on modern cars, on which the Aygo bunch takes only 3 seconds to get into :!Removed!: .

The model listed in the chart was the Corolla 1.6 T3 five door which took 60 seconds to brake into, which is shocking compared to a Hyundai Accent 1.3 Si three door of 300 seconds.

I thought the car was tough ..... but obviously not

It may take 60 seconds to break in to a corolla, but it still can not be driven away !!

If someone wanted to take anything on display in any car it can be done in less than 1 second by breaking the glass !!

The important thing is that the car cannot be started and driven away !!!

I read report the other saying new cars now are virtually un-steal able without the keys, so steal new car these day need to have the keys, which why most burglars first thing they look for now are the keys to car.

As I’m getting new steering wheel I did think about getting quick release boss, see them try and steal my car with no steering wheel, but then realised how un practical it was carry a steering wheel around.

My car is 16 years old now I did contemplating getting an alarm but not sure if any one would really want to steal it as the AE92 don't look much from outside but are really quite good little fast cars, especially when they are being prepared for racing, I am slowly race preparing it but funds, time and use the car tend to slow me down, but I still do sprint events every other week in it.

Regards

Phil.

I'd like to see the articles definition of breaking into the car?

My understanding is that ( with my 3 door anyway ) the doors cannot be opened when dead-locked. I always leave the car dead-locked ( press the locking button twice on the key ).

Even sitting inside the car when dead-locked you can't get out.

Sure you could smash a window and get in really quickly, but you are going in and out through that window, not the door.

I guess the hatch could be an area of weakness?

theives now break into your home to steal the keys... many times have i heard on the Lexus boards about people having their homes broken into... bamboo stick through the letter box or shovel in the side of the back door wrenching the door open. Most common is in the winter with icy windows.. people leave car running to warm up and someone drives off.

I would rather someone nick my car than break into my home putting my family at risk of being attacked stumbling accross a burgular.

ive heard about people dressed as recovery drivers turning up with a flat bed and lifting the car straight on to it in broad daylight.....

if they want it , they will take it.... :ffs:

you have to prove how it was stolen to your ins company too

anyone can break into a car unless it has toughened glass....

the only thing with the corolla is that no alarm siren will go off to draw attention to the car....

but without the kys they aint go no where especially when its deadlocked too.

really the article should find out to break in and drive off.
