Hi Trigg

I am experiencing smiliar noises from my gearbox too - I've got a '98 1.8 GLS manual. Took it to the mechanic's today and he said straight - the gearbox has gone and needs replacing. He suggested getting a 2nd hand one from a Breaker's even though there's no guarantee, they usually work well- costing £100-150. An alternative he mentioned was to get my current gearbox refurbished, cost is around £350. Bearing in mind it's highly recommended to get a clutch (£70-80) fitted at the same time. He wanted £80 for the job.

After that I was actually thinking to change the oil to see if that would help until I read your post! It seems it made no difference. I'll probably stick to getting it replaced. I also did ask family n friends for their advice and they all suggested to get a 2nd hand put in.

Regards

Ehtesham
