1992 Hilux Surf Air Con Problem.

Hi all,

Does anyone know much about the air con on this model ? The light on the button does not work when pressed, the wire was not connected to the compressor as the clip was broken but thats fixed and in place. I couldnt find a fuse for A/C on the fuse box lists but when I removed the OSF side panel where the main fuse box is there was a 10 Amp fuse in a 4 fuse holder above the ECU popped so ive put a 10 in there hoping that is the air con fuse. Still no light on the button though and maybe that wasnt the fuse I need to find ?. I think its safe to assume when the wire to the compressor popped off it has shorted out ? Any ideas/help welcomed, someone did say there is poss a A/C relay ? or if anyone knows if the fuse i changed was the right one and if not where is it ?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Grimmy

PS Sorry to the moderators I accidently posted this in the MR2 forum oh well if they dont like it we can always drive over there MR2's  .

If the system is low on gas it will not work anyway, it has a cutout switch under the dash some where, so you need to get it checked out by a aircon engineer, also the system will be running on R12 gas which is not used any more so they will have to convert it to a newer gas, might cost you a few bob.

Hi

just a slightly different angle towards (part?) of your prob - and maybe a little late having seen the posted date - but the aircon light won't illuminate if your fan selector is set to off.

Only noticed this on mine recently

The air con guys managed to sort it out. Was something to do with some device behind the glovebox ? This has been disconnected and the wires joined together. If anyone knows what they bypassed I would still like to know.

Thanks

Grimmy
