:) Hi Guys i know this has been posted before, but does anyone know where i can buy a rear door strap for my 2006 Rav 4 that will enable the door to open to 90o, also how easy is it to fit, do you have to remove the the inside panaling.

I've seen pictures of before and after and been advised to fit the reflective tape to the edge of the door as it covers the back lights, however if you look at the before picture it covers the back light anyway, am i missing somthing or is it just the picture, any help apreciated. Baz

The 2006 T180 has a 90 degree strap, which I suspect would also fit other models in the range... you might even get your dealer to fit it, if you're nervous ;-)

Hi Pete, got the new strap but having trouble fitting it. The two nuts on the door were fine to get off, the one fitted to the jamb is a different story, i've only got a 10mm ring spanner and no way is that bolt moving, don't know if it's fitted with Loctite or somthing but it's so tight. Gonna have to get a socket set and see if that does the job, also with a spanner theres no room to lever, did you find this or did you use a socket. Baz :(

Hi Matey

Get a socket on it .. mine was like that

... it will come out ..

one bolt away and you have cracked it

I bought a garden table set with 4 chairs the other day (under wife instructions  ) and the table fitted in the rear perfectly and filled the rear load area but had I not done the rear door mod I would never have got the table into the rear ...

Peteee

Took mine off, cut off the end about 20cm from hole where pin goes in (nearer pillar) and welded in about

15-20 cm flat bar. Perfect full opening door

I am going to get one of these extended door straps and fit it myself but could someone first explain how exactly the rear door trim panel comes off ? I've had a look at it and Iam a bit reluctant to just force it off using a flat bladed screwdriver. Any advice please.

I'm guessing you have a later model like the 2006 which I have, as I noticed on the previous ones they have easy unscrew panels but on mine it was cliped.

It took me quite a while to get it unclipped as the car was brand new and a company car which I shouldn't be modifying. I found that I only needed to unclip the corner and I could get my arm up high enough through the gap to unbolt the clip, feed it out and the new one in.

The only thing which I didn't like at the end was that there was a ceal over the metal door that was glued on and I had to pull back then restick worse than I would have liked for something I'm covering up from work. ;)

You will find it comes off quite easily, as you run the screw driver round the panel you can feel the plastic pop out rivets, just lever slightly and away it comes, follow this round the whole panel, pull out the door interior light, place the panel to one side, lift the sticky polythene sheet and your there. Ensure you use a good 10mm socket as the single bolt on the door jam is really tight, undo the two bolts on the door, replace the strap and just reverse the procedure. Take your time and it should take no longer than about 20mins, hope this helps. Baz
