Spark Plugs

(cars been parked for a while)

A bit odd, i put brand new spark plugs in 2 days ago, went for long drive I also went on motorway got 140mph. Car felt great lots of power.

Got round a corner car suddenly switched off started her up again needed to keep foot on gas even when parked to keep engine on (sounded as if wanted to backfire).

Got home, scratched head for a while checked bits an bobs. Thought may be because high reving engine, oil must have got to plugs, pulled the plugs out coverd in soot (by looking they looked about 7000 miles). Cleaned plugs put them back in engine sounds a bit stronger....... but is there any way of cleaning all tht soot (carbon out) think it mayb the CAUSE as i'v been told these engines run very rich (have thought about fuel injector cleaner).

I've cleaned the TB out but sounds like a slight vacum leak

BackBox got a hole - gives a VERY slight blue vapour almost burns yr eyes

Slight water leak in a pipe - only leaks when fan kicks in

The blue smoke is normaly your piston rings are goiong which means new engine or rebuild!

As for the soot could be running very rich, buit of red-ex/slick 50 or other simlar engine clening proucut could help but think you ought to sort out the blue smoke fist that very bad thing!

If back box has hole would try and stall mine had hole for while and used to try and stall if was under 2k revs.

Havn't driven th car much in last 3-4 months so i'l keep an eye on oil from now on.

(if i change plugs it wouldn't be th cure).

If it is piston rings how much am i looking at parts+labour, and is thr anything worth doin at the same time dnt wnt another engine as same prob may crop up again.

Read a thread about sumones car doin similiar things they said injectors were knackerd???

  • 2 weeks later...

an update on the situation, black smoke was caused by a leak in vacum tubing to MAP sensor, corrected that and flames came out of exhaust when revved.(no black smoke anymore also told to put white spirit in fuel?)

rough idling was throttle switch/sensor not correctly position as it has play to adjust engine sounds quieter than my mates 04 corolla

carb cleaner through all TB and vacum tubes/holes

put standard induction back on

only one problem left messed about with accelerator when accelerating appears to have a flat spot then almost cuts out. anyone know how to adjust correctly the nuts on the accelartor on the TB

also my engines out of a AW11, would the ECU be different on the COROLLA GT, if any different how much difference would it make

THNXS
