Jan do you have front and rear photos of your car because I remember you saying you have rear parking sensors and wondered how these look?

Posted

I have a factory fitted sunroof in my Corolla. There is certainly a place for both a sunroof and A/C. I like the airy feel that the sunroof gives and it is good for getting rid of heat quickly from the car when it has been standing in hot weather. I usually open the sunroof fully for a few minutes then close it again and then put the A/C on. Car then cools down quicker.

So nothing wrong with a sunroof IMHO ;)

Posted

The only problem is when they leak. I remember an ex having one in his Astra and getting water pour over me when it rained!

Posted

My car is two years old and Webasto warrants the roof for three years on installation and fabrication errors.

Improper or misuse is not covered, but that seems logical to me. I'm not worried at all...

As for the sensors, I'll make some pics this weekend...

Posted

The sunroofs do look good and it is nice to have the fresh air. After having troubles with a leaking one in my last car I don't think I could face another. This I'll stick with the window open or AC.

Well, due to the weather I didn't get around to making pics untill today...

Here's a pic that shows the reversing sensors (for a little bit)

You might also notice the backbox looking less prominent; spraypainted it black with BBQ-paint :D

The sunroof from the inside, due to the changes in lighting when opening the

glass (80% tinted) I couldn't get a movie to work, so I made an animated GIF:

And another one showing the sensors (A little bit more... Screw it; I just like the picture ;) )

Wow great last picture. Perfect angle and the grass effect.

I would really like a sunroof but with the rust issue thats going on i wouldnt even dare do it! and does the aygo a 3' car ;P need parking sensors??? (i bet soon they will be sticking them to wheelchairs too  )

Posted

To be honest, at first I fitted the sensors for the gadget-factor...

And nw I wish I hadn't, as I HATE them... They don't ook too

stupid, but they're too sensitive, so I removed power to them...

The sensors are too low (I monted them in the positions Toyota use for their

system), so they even respond to a plume of exhaust fumes on cold mornings...

Peugeot mounts their sensors up higher in the bumper, but on an Aygo that would look

stupid, with the 107 it doesn't, since they mount 'em in the grey separate bumper piece...

As for the rust, what issues are you referring to? The cips above

the windscreen that seem to be happening or something else???

Posted

Yes that the one on the windscreen and the rust i found at the back under the 3rd brake light (on the edge of the cut hole and around the screws of the 3rd brakelight)

Posted

I took out my 3rd brake light today to have a look and luckily my car as

NO rust there, and it's clean at the front of the roof line too (luckily)...

I DID notice the nozzle for the rear window washer was a bit loose,

but I'm planning on altering that dribble-hole anyway...

I really want this sunroof - the exact same! (as Jan van de Wouw)

Not sure where to start though :(

Posted

Just do a search (online0 for a Webasto Dealer near you.

Ring them and ask for a quote on fitting an Aygo with a Webasto Hollandia 300 Medium DeLuxe with sunblind.

If you like the price (probably about £625 or so) make an appointment for them to fit it.

They took only about 2 hours on fitting mine and I'm still very glad I had it fitted.

Should I make a choice between loosing A/C or the Sunroof, I'd keep the sunroof...

Posted

Why don't small cars come with sun roofs these days anyway?

The Yaris Mk1 has several trims with sunroofs but none of the new ones do :S

Posted

The reason sunroofs are no longer available on new cars is because there is not much demand for them although this is changing recently with panoramic roofs etc.

As for me, I hate the damn things and avoid them at all costs. I think this comes from my experiences with my Renault Clio (Yes I know - I was young and it was a car I could afford  )where it constantly rattled in cold weather, made strange dribbling sounds when raining alike to someone peeing in the toilet, and in some cases leaked.

Thankfully my Aygo never suffered any problems with leaks, but I suspect the car would have been even more partial to letting water inside if it had a sunroof.

Thanks, I hope I can find a garage nearby to do it, £625 is worth it! looks real good on you aygo.

oh and...

"You might also notice the backbox looking less prominent; spraypainted it black with BBQ-paint" - this is a really good idea, I hate how obvious it is, I did a search for BBQ paint on diy.com (B&Q) but I got a couple of results, should I use any inperticular?

Posted

I used a spraycan from Hammerite, because I had one in the shed.

You can also use "normal" spraypaint, but I'm not sure what will happen when the

exhaust heats up. The paint I used can stand up to 600ºC it says on the can...

best quote for the roof i got was 1,500....so if you find someone cheaper post it!!

Posted

£1500? I doubt if that's the sunroof I have. Sounds more like pricing for a Hollandia 700 or 900

that slides INTO the roof and requires a new headlining and MUCH more work...

Have a look at the Webasto site: http://sunroof.webasto.co.uk/ They also have pricing online

and "my" roof is listed there as £409,80 but this is WITHOUT VAT and fitting.

As I said befor, the one I have is a Webasto Hollandia 300 Medium DeLuxe with soft Touch and rollo.

I left out the rainsensor as I allready went WAY over my original budget :P

Posted

Not being rude but..... do you guys really want to increase the chance of getting a leak?

Posted

Put in a sunroof and half the metal on the car is gone

Posted

best quote for the roof i got was 1,500....so if you find someone cheaper post it!!

I got quoted

"To supply and fit 300 deluxe large £600.00 (acceptable rooof deformation occurs)

" " 300 deluxe medium £560.00

these are soft touch controls (one touch)

Prices are subject to V.A.T. @ 20%"

this is at Auto Graphics in Sunderland (UK)

Posted

Those prices sound way more acceptable.

I'm not sure how much larger the "Large" is, but I'd stick with the "Medium";

that's what Webasto recommended me allmost three years ago...

Posted

I love my sunroof even though I have air con. Nice way to colour my scalp :)

Obviously, I turn the air con off with it open :)

Posted

I actually don't... At least not allways. I regularly have the A/C blowing

cold on my feet while the roof lets the hot air escape from above...

[OT]Love your avatar; I actually share my birthday with

both Jean Luc Picard as well as Patrick Steward :P[/OT]
