hmmm...

I hear the sound of a padlock ;)

and anyway, 170kph is only 104mph - adjusting for 10% overreading, means thats a whopping 90mph...

excuse me while i pick myself up off the floor.

kinda defys the point in having an economical car really. :huh:

172kph x 0.9 is 96.75mph, pretty much what is quoted as the top speed of the car.

It "could" be going slightly faster than that as the speedo is not neccessarily out by as much as 10%.

all car manufacturers make their cars 'overread' by about 10% - FACT

and 1 kilometer = 0.621371192 miles ;)

Nope :o

Manufacturers must not make their speedos under-read. They are allowed to provide them up to 10% out.

However, if you read Autocar roadtests, you will see that quite often they are less than 10% out. e.g. some cars will show 62mph or so at a true 60.

Now my calculation.

Indicated = 172 kph

172 x 0.6214 = 106.88mph ***note I previous used 5/8 for the convertion***

90% of 107.5 = 96.19mph.

Please explain how you get 90mph from an indicated 104 in your calculation :)
