Rattle/crunch Noise Help Please!

Hi

I've finally got around to getting a st185 and I'm very happy with it.

The only problem is when I have the window open I can hear a rattly/crunchy noise, I can't really hear it when the windows are shut.

It only seems to happen under acceleration at low speeds (20-30ish) and I only notice it when the engine is cold, after a bit of motorway driving it seems to disappear.

I thought that it something to do with the clutch because when i pressed it, it seemed to disappear, though i think it is more to do with the drop in engine speed.

Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks

From your description I would have thought it was one of two things,

1/ possibly exhaust related. Check out the front section from the downpipe, It could be the flexi pipe is in poor shape and causing the exhaust to move around, possibly fouling the subframe.

2/ Might be an idea to jack up each corner and give the wheels a good tug, check the wheel bearings and condition of brake pads. Also the balljoints and steering joints while you`re at it.

If nothing else it`ll give you peace of mind that nothing is in imminent danger of falling off.

Ah thanks when I looked under the car, one of those metal bands which hold the exhaust on looked loose and i think it keeps catching when i go over speed humps quickly, that would make alot of sense.

Thanks!! :D
