Help! My Radio Won't Work

Hi. I am new to this site but am looking for some help with my Yaris 1.0 GS ('99 model). I have had my Yaris from new, and so far have had no problems with it. But suddenly I can't get the radio/cassette player to work. In addition the cigarette lighter won't work. I think the problems are connected and happened after using the cigarette lighter to plug in my in-car mobile phone charger. A small connecting piece of the charger broke off inside, and following it's removal neither the audio or cigarette lighter has worked.

I have checked the fuse, in fact all fuses, and they are all OK. I also, after getting instructions from this site, took the front panels off and had a look at the wiring just in case there was a loose connection. It all looks in tact as far as I can tell, so I can only imagine that there has been a short somewhere. I don't play cassettes and never switch the radio off so it is very strange, and also very sad because I no longer have a clock, temperature or any other display functions.

I just wondered if any Yaris experts out there who have any suggestions before I call someone out to have a look at it.

Thanks

I know you said you have checked all the fuses but are you aware of the ones in the dash located close to your right knee. That is the location of the cig/radio fuse.

although you've checked your fuses, I still would have said it's a fuse, I think it's fairly hard to short circuit something unless you are pulling a lot of amps.

Thanks. I did wonder if there were other fuses somewhere. I will certainly check those in the dash later. Are they easy to access?
