Tns300 Map Data Source

Hi everyone,

another sat nav question. I have the TNS300 DVD system installed which apparently is from Denso.

What I want to know is where the map coverage data for europe is obtained from ?

Is it Navtech ?

just wondering as Navtech have announced 100% coverage of R.O.I.

It would be worth upgrading from my 2003/2004 version if it has a better coverage of Ireland.

I realise that the data probably wouldn't be available to until next year, but it would be great if it was, and I don't mind waiting.

Regards,

David

The TNS300 is made by Aisin or AW in ints other name. The mapos are Navteq and it takes about 18 months from electronic map publishing to DVDs in Vehicles!

Thanks Trafficman,

thats great news, all I have to do now is be patient, very patient.

From what you say it looks like the data will be available the year after next.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a TNS300 with the 2004/2005 disc - as you've found, coverage of Ireland is very patchy outside the main cities.

The new mapping data was made available to the car manufacturers at the start of 2006. A couple of months later, I checked with Toyota in Dublin and they said an updated DVD for Europe was due at the end of July 2006.

I contacted Toyota again last week to see if the disc is available yet, but am still waiting to hear back. Six months does seem like a reasonable amount of time to integrate the new mapping data (rather than 18 months).

Does anyone in the UK know whether a new disc is imminent, or indeed now available? (I've seen reference to a 2005/2006 disc, but I would guess that is probably from last year, and won't have any improvements to the Irish maps).

Toyota responded to me today and said that the new disc should be available in 6-8 weeks, depending on production and delivery times.

So hopefully we'll have something around the beginning of October.

Any idea on costs?
No cost was given but based on previous experience, I'd expect €250-300 (maybe around Stg 200).
