Passanger Airbag On-off Switch

Hi There -

Received a letter from Toyota South Africa stating that during a routine crash test evaluation, the passanger airbag on-off action was found to be faulty. This is what is wrong...

When you switch it off(disabling the airbag), instead of disabling the airbag, it disables the seatbelt pre-tensioner but leaves the airbag active!

This is caused by a Computer Unit Logic Error.

However, when you leave the switch to the normal ON position, everything functions properly.

Toyota said that all 2004 to May 2006 Versos are affected. The post-May 2006 units have been rectified.

They also said that new computer modules will be fitted free of charge to all our vehicles by end 2006 which will rectify the error.

As a general rule, please do not place baby chairs on the front seat, thinking that the airbag is off. Always strap them on the rear seat. It is a fact that the rear is the safest place.

Regards

Erwin

Just got mine fixed but the paperwork that came with it didn't mention changing the module, just a harness. Must check again.

Anyone else had the recall done?
