Oil Leak At Front?

Hello, I wonder if you can help. You'll guess that I'm not the world's best mechanic, so simple language if you would be so kind.

When I lift the bonnet of my 91 Carina Auto Exec and look down front left (driver side), there's an oil leak which seems to be coming from some piping higher up front left, dripping down onto the chassis, front, bottom left (driver side) and then on to the road.

I don't appear to losing oil, although I suppose I must be.

It seems to my simple mind that it could be something to do with this 'piping', which is obviously oily, but whether this is correct, what this piping is and how to repair I wouldn't have a clue.

If anyone can help, would be much obliged.

Thank you

Poppy

The piping you describe links the oil cooler to the engine block. You wil see that the pipes continue onto a small radiator which is in front of the main cooling radiator just behind the front grill. These pipes will fail at the clips securing then onto either the engine side or the oil cooler side. It is just a case of undoing the connection cutting the corroded rubber hose off and re-attaching. This would need to be done with the oild drained from the engine.

These pipes on my car have looked oily for some time but it has never developed to a drip/leak so I've left them well alone. If it's a very small leak I would be tempted to clean the oil away from the offending joint with some 'Gunk' or similar engine cleaner then use some silicone sealant around the area. You could do this without having to drain the oil.

Many thanks. Will inspect and see what I can manage. At least it seems fairly minor.

Thanks again.
