Toyota says 0-62mph in 8.4 secs. Bear in mind that second gear only goes up to 61mph :D

I had mine electronically timed over 0-60 at Trax a couple of years ago and I did 7.2sec. without too much stress on a good surface in hot weather.

I think it is one of those "over-estimates" that all the documentation says 8.4.

If you actually time it on a flat track in average weather it will come out closer to mid/low sevens.

-Anyone who has actually done this will back this up.

I actually had to settle an argument about this with a few friends and took them in to my toyota garage where the rep confirmed that it is indeed 7.2, same as is printed everywhere for the celica.

I think they just round the fgure up a bit to throw other manufacturers off when theyre releasing specs for a new motor. And also Toyota wants to market the Celica as their fastest model, why would they print that the Corolla has the same 0-62 time ;)

Dont take my word for it, ask your local dealer - if they are any way honest they will confirm this.

We all know that the CTS is quicker than the OFFICIAL number 8.4!

But he asked for the official 0-60

0-100kph ie 62mph is 8.4 secs.

CTS 2nd gear stops at 61mph hence the extra time for the gear change

I allready told you 0-60mph is 8.4 seconds. NOT 0-100kph... :censor:

Official that is...

well in my corolla brochure it says 0-62mph in 8.4 secs. also read what paulT said

Because of EU regs, all readings must be in metric/SI measurements therefore when we get fuel consumption figures we get MPG and l/100km because the majority of people in england are used to imperial measurements.

At the same time, the power output of the CTS is given in PS not BHP. PS is pfederstaeker not HP which most people don't realise. The quoted 192PS is 189BHP

OK, I understand. I just found 0-60mph 8.4 everywhere I looked. Not 0-62.

But I bet your brochure have the real info.

Sorry!

I think they're not too exactly when they prompt the info. Thinking of what was said that shifting gear to third take some time...

Often prompted 0-60 but meaning 0-62 (0-100kph)

I think I get it! :D

Thanks for your arguments!!

  • 3 weeks later...

my grandma does 7.5 with TC turned on ;-)

I go 6.5

Hey Yary$ is that in a Yaris? or does ya Grandma really drive a CTS?

LOL

Hey guys am not seeing how the corolla can only hit 61 MPH in second gear. I swear i've topped out at 65. Will test this theory out in the morning. Though its gonna screw up my 31.5 Mpg average which i've acummulated over the last 60 miles but hey its all in the name of science. (Plus it gives me an excuse to give it some beans)

Prof Rolley's Scientic Report on Maximum Speed Reachable in Second Gear of a CTS:

I Prof Rolley have undertaken the most exciting Scientific study known to man (Yeah Right)

To boldly go to the maximum possible velocity in second gear of a Corolla T Sport.

Here are my Findings:

66 mph @ max 8200 rpm.

My Conclusion:

Toyota have been pulling our plonkas again and not entirely told the truth.

The End

LOL

I thought this as I remember when I left it in second I was definiately doing more than 60 when I changed.

Also has anyone with a quick shift fitted tried so see the difference 0-62?

How did you measure that? The car's speedometer over estimates, so you would need gps to get an accurate figure.

Or you could have bigger wheels and tyres I guess.

I *think*, if you cane it in second then press the clutch in as you hit the limiter, you'll get another 2-3mph before you start slowing down.

Everything is standard. Have 5 mm of tread on front wheels and new ones on the back so lets say 8mm. Haven't tested with gps as I didn't take that into consideration. Seeming as i don't have one either that doesn't help. LOL

I gather its gonna be one of them things which is gonna be quite difficult to prove as you said bigger tyres will make things read differently, tread is also another 8mm tread against 2 will read an extra mile or two difference. Even the car might be slightly different in its speedo sensitivity.
