Hi all

Just collected my 1997 Rav -4 5D Auto and she drives really well , only 38000 miles on the clock but not purchased from a toyota agent. troubles is it raises so many questions

First things first

I would like to put a towbar on and twin electrics to tow my caravan, is it possible to have a detachable ball and one that is fairly high off the ground as my van has a lowish jockey wheel.

Would the electrics be difficult to fix for the fridge and charging circuits for the van or are their any short cuts. I have read the forums but 1997 ravs don't seem to have to many problems (brilliant)

Thanks for the forums guys its a wonderful pool of info and I know i shall have many more questions

regards

MLP

MLP welcome to TOC good choice of car you have made.....

I have the removable hitch type tow bar, I dont think you can raise them too high though. This is because of the rear door opening may faul the ball.... Horse box I sometime tow has a low jockey wheel, but not twanged it yet  though...

I'm sure more owners may have made the adjustments....

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hi Chatman

I think I,m going to leave it to a fitter as I have to have dual electrics

and I believe it means running a direct feed from the front to the back

of the rav more bl--y expense :censor:

thanks anyway for your input

Hi Bob

sorry for the late reply.

As far as I'm aware the government will not subsidise the conversion and i believe they have never done so for an "old vehicle"

Still not got mine back yet hope it will be done today

Yes you're right , i think it was only on new vehicle conversions  .

Let us know how you get on with the conversion, some people say it runs quieter along with better MPG.

Just thought i'd chip in again!

The government were originally paying toward conversions even on older cars, but it was certain types only. I was looking into getting it done on my Avensis back when I had it, and that was elegible for a grant then.

But, it soon stopped as per normal!!
