At the risk of lighting the blue touchpaper on the proverbial firework this topic normally is :), but does anyone have any stong opinions/experience on whats a good tyre to be fitting to the gt4? (preferably something that lasts longer than 3 months like my old Pilots on the M3!!)

I had Toyo proxes on mine when i first had it. They lasted about 5K. Got Kumhos on it now but i`ve not done much mileage on them so can`t really tell.

Traditionally.. Michelins are the hardest wearing tyre on the market... but 3 months from a Pilot is errr.. pi... absolute cr... shi...... not very good.

Depends on the thickness of your wallet really.. Toyo are by far the most popular, followed closely by the Goodyear F1.. but for a thinner wallet.. can't go too far wrong with Kumho KU31.. half descent mid range tyre.

I blame a heavy tight foot and high motorway miles!

But with the BM the grip was VERY noticeably different depending on what it was shod with, is that the same on the 4? or is it more like the impreza where I had KwikFit Centaurs or something but it still gripped like a bugger.

Yeah. Combination of soft compound, knackered alignment and ermm enthusiastic driving  But having said that they were incredibly grippy and the bits that still had good tread were down to about 3mm, unfortunately i didn`t notice the inner edges were almost down to the cords on the fronts, The rears were in good condition and still had about 4 - 5mm on them so i flogged them when i changed the wheels. :D

Coming from a mr2 view point, they all love the Toyo Proxes types and indeed i had a set on my old tubby and highly reccomend them TS1's...

As the same tyres will behave differently on different cars, I would be interedted to find out what peoples thoughts are on this as well. :)

I've got some Yok's on mine that it came with from japan, I've done 5k miles since owning it and they haven't hardly lost any tread at all.

Well impressed cos I don't drive slow!

Must admit they do squeel like a *****, so I assume they are quite hard.

Yokohama racing slicks 240/40/17. i know a guy that races in the WTCC and i can get used practice tyres off him real cheap. i had them cut for driving to and from trackdays.

They cant be road legal surely?!

Or you just hope you dont get pulled on the way to and from the track?

My two penn'orth on the tyre debate,

I had Yokos fitted when I first got the Sainz, but there was too much understeer. Switched them for Bridgestone SO2. Excellent tyres. Good grip in wet and dry, struggled on ice in the Alps! but the chains sorted that out.

Just replaced the (discontinued) SO2 with an SO3. Feels much the same but tread pattern is different and less 'aggressive'. Get about 10k miles per set. Bought last 4 on line and got a good discount on tyre shop prices.

I too have Eagle F1s which are HIGHLY recommended by myself and LOTs of members of GT4OC.

I was told they last alot longer than Toyo's too.

And i got mine from www.mytyres.co.uk ;)

The yokos on mine now are just a fekking embarrasment. They screach like a bugger at every corner (even when I'm just parking at work), but given any sort of real aggression they just slide all over.
