Corolla Name Being Ditched!

Just being reading yesterday's papers, yes im slow at reading  , and they said in the Daily Mail in the motoring section about the Corolla.

Quote:

"Toyota is ditching the name of the world's best-selling car - Corolla.

The Badge on the boot of the car that has sold more than 30 million since 1966 will be dropped of the next-generation compact family hatchback when it goes on sale in the UK early next year.

Toyota want a new name to reflect the car's more radical look - just as the Ford Escort became the Ford Focus."

What's your views about it??

What would you name it??

Toyota Auris doesnt sound too bad actually, but if they want to compete against the Focus, they need something a bit snappier...

I think the Toyota Neo is a cool name.... Neo means "new" in Greek  Dunno if anything else is called Neo though and it may be trademarked already thanks to the Matrix...

Why dont they call it the Toyota burbuja (which is Spanish for Bubble :P ) since thats what more modern corollas are starting to look like. They could also settle on Carlloo which is an anagram of Corolla :D

Bonkers. Having invested so much money and effort into building the brand, why junk it? If you want to update the image of the car then make a different car but you may as well still call it a Corolla.

Marketing people running the show I think.

Paul.

But as i said in the beginning, ford did the same sort of thing with the focus, which replaced the escort, so rebranding might not be a bad thing, but it's not going to ruin toyota image, it just shows that time changes and it's updating itself.

i always thought corolla was a pretty cool name, so it will have to be a good name to replace it

seems like toyota are ditching everything at the moment with the t-sports, celicas and mr2s going,

A brand is made up of more than a model.

Toyota's brand image is focused on reliability, in the trade Toyota are well regarded as there product sells for more than similar vehicles but also holds value well in comparison aswell...

Due to the quality of Japanese car metal over the decades I think the new Toyota should be called the ...

...RustyIS !

ford ended up running the escort and focus for a few years tho wasnt a clear one out one in was it !

vauxhall did it with the nova and the corsa

so i guess it is time but there names dont seem to be so easy to say as the ford or vauxhall lol how on earth u prenounce auris ?!

apparantly the reason they changed the nova name, and also the reason the opel version wass never called nova, is because no va in spanish means 'it does not go'

Though I have heard of this name change idea from time to time, I have yet to hear anything around the shop. I have worked at the Corolla factory in Canada for over 5 years now and nobody has even hinted at it. Now I'm no authority but I can say that we at the plant do hear about things in greater advance than the general public. Afterall, we knew that the Celica was going to be dropped over 2 years ago...

I'm just saying that I find it unlikely that they would drop such a well known model. It might have worked for Ford but who are we kidding, the Escort was no Corolla.

You cant trust Toy-ota to come up with a name.

not when they call their modesl BB, Mark II and Opa.

Opa means grand dad in the dutch language. seriously uncool.

just read your comments on toyota dropping the T-sport. T-sports will be back with the new corolla 2007 model in the form of 2.2 deisel. This car will have all the power needed for a car of its type
