Surely, surely, surely the Mr T approved method of removing the seats from a French-built Yaris does not involve dremels, hammers and mole grips? How the heck do they do it at the dealership?

I have the correct-sized torx head, but it still mangles the studs.

2 out, 6 more to go :crybaby:

At least I have a set of jap-spec hex bolts to go back in though.

Don't apologise Charlie, it would be a simple job if the seats had been attached with a normal hex bolt. That's what's driving me nuts - it should be a simple task :(

There's probably a special tool for the job from Toyota, but it'll cost millions!

If it makes you feel any better, it doesn't get better with bikes either.

Suzuki intend on using bolts made of cheese on things like the cylinder head, and bolts that are seized as soon as they leave the factory on things like the exhaust headers!

I've replaced the majority with stainless ones (allen/ socket heads), cause it only costs a few quid for a bag 'o' bolts!

Keep at it matey. Go Braveheart on them bolts!!!

"Owned" is most commonly used in England to signify being outwitted by a person or object in a usually competitive situation.

- would seem to cover it, at least until the next set of stubborn-mechanical-fixing-removal-tools arrive. I swear this task has cost me almost as much in tools as it has in seats...

I'm calmed down now ;)

I am so thoroughly, unbelieveably and incredibly hacked* off by this task that you wouldn't believe it.

Basically another 5 hours spent on this today by me neighbough and I and we seem to be no further forward.

I'm not going to spend all tomorrow on it too.

gonna say....... i can get em out....... but its a fair distance...... if your really struggling al, have a word with kev, pop down to envy and im sure rob will get them out for you. cant remember exactly but..... some of the seat bolts on the jap cars are metric fine, although i think that might just be seat belt bolts.....

you'll proberly find they are loctited in. get an impuact driver. the shock can free em

he cant, cause its french **** they use torx instead of the just as crap 14mm headed toyota jelly bolts. and he's chewed them up. it wants a drilling down the middle the correct size for some easy outs, and a bit of heat :)

Well, the little sods are out and replaced with the Jap-spec "proper" bolts so I'll swap the seats over after the weekend (I'm at my folks at the moment).

A huge thanks to clarky and earpl for advice. In the end we avoided welding but used a mahoosive set of mole grips, a chisel, a hammer and a screwdriver. Not to mention some well-placed "gentle persuasion" :D

Here are the offending items:-

Note the rust on the two centre ones - those are the rear inside ones that pass through the transmission tunnel and were an absolute sod to get to.

I'm at my folks and the seats are down at mine. I'll stick them in Monday night and stick up a couple of photos.

I have to admit I got a good bit of help from two of the guys that work for my dad too... Cheers to Mark and Alastair ;)

Yes, you toad, I did do much of it myself. :P

Once I'd owned up to having been a bit of a tit and they'd been slightly loosened (that first 5 degrees) then I took them out the rest of the way. It took a while as you could only make about a 1/4 turn before you had to remove the mole grips and put them back on again.

So when are you going to replace the hardbrake cover!??!?!?!?!?!?

You have far more patience then i had getting some seats out of a fiesta to sell them!

Got the angle ginder out to just take the tops off! Granted the car was going to the scrappers so didnt matter that they were left in!

If I could have got the angle grinder into the bolts... ;)

Clarky - handbrake cover would be a doddle, were I a !Removed! wanting to do it all again...

Well Ill tell you what - if you're even considering the handbrake Id do it while the seats are out - makes for a lot more room!
