just had a go in a mates t180 thats been chipped to 200bhp its verging on the obscene suprised a few bmw owners with pace and acceleration really have to say this new gen rav is a cracking motor and the t180 handling

my mate loves his fast rav4's hes just sold a mk2 diesel 3dr that had 140 bhp chip on it that was a bit rapid too

he was telling me that the place he got it done also can chip the 2.2 140 to 177 (same as factory t180) (included avensis and corlla verso + they had a 110bhp diesel yaris (which was in his words a bit enteraining))

Errr, so let me get this straight. A *Toyota* dealer chipped his car to 200BHP for £500?

*Toyota*?

*Dealer*?

Really? I was considering getting mine done, but on the QT so that it wouldn't affect the warranty, but I believe it's pretty much unheard of for a dealer to do this.

Have you any more details, or even a contact at the dealer who might be able to spill the beans on this?

yes you have got this right i just asked him again the only details he had left out was that it could effect his warranty should it cause an engine failure (unlikely) and the prices he had mentioned were + vat the t180 cost him £590.35 inc the vat still not a bad price i think considering the performance gain there phone number is 024 76 348800 the guy to speak to is the parts manager

You can definately have it done because I know a Toyota Dealer that has one chipped to 225BHP.

I don't think the fuel is too adversely effected but you tend to grow horns and pass everything in sight which doesn't help.

You could hear a pronounced diesel knock but that could possibly be cured by not using supermarket fuel.

I can assure you that a chipped Avensis T180 is breathtaking.

right so echoing the previous posts, ITS DONE BY A DEALER!!

Bring it on! The standard 180 is quick, so might have to give it a try. Don't want any side effects though and a knock is a most definate no no.

It may be done by the dealer, but is it above board?

Before I got my RAV, I considered a Volvo XC90, before I decided I really couldn't afford it. One of my concerns was that the diesel was not powerful enough. The dealer said no problem, we'll remap it for you. I did ask if this would affect the warranty, and he said that they wouldn't be telling Volvo, and as along as I bought it back to them, they would have no problems working on the car.

What's the deal with Toyota then. I might consider doing this when the car is a bit older. 225bhp would be nice to have :) Also I'm not far from Nuneaton, or Derby(?), the 2 mentioned so far.

Hang on a minute!!!

There are Toyota dealers with chips fitted to engines that is true enough.

I can give you a cast iron gaurantee that any mods of that nature are at your own risk.

Dealers may advise you and they may even fit them for you (same as the will probably fit a baby seat from Mother Care) but you "pays your money and you takes your chance".

The best thing you can do is identify the manufacturer and ask them what their position is on warranty but I think you will find it is the same. You could howver fit it yourself and take it off if your engine throws it's hand in under the pressure of racing BMW V8's.

Like most things, in moderation they are probably fine and a useful bit of kit to occasionally show off or pass a line of cars but if you drive around like formula 1 driver all the time you can probably expect trouble.

As for me? As far as I know they are only available for the 180 engine which is down to the Piezoid injectors and the rest of the ECU mapping so I can't have one on my 140. If there was an option, I intend keeping mine for a long time so I would probably decline anyway.

Going back to the chip for the T180, I wonder where it is sourced from as I have been looking on TTE,s website and they do not do a chip for the D/cat 2.2 engine. They only do one for the previous gen 4.2 diesel.

apparently the company who make these chips do one for the 2,2 140 bhp puts it to about 177bhp

I'm pretty sure it's not a Toyota part. I will try to find out but it might not be until Monday

They are available for all RAV4 diesels. email - info.uk@steinbauer.cc

The steinbauer p box website is pretty good and answers most questions. I could have mine chipped to 163BHP for £399 + VAT.

Anchorman, have been on Steinbauer website and had a look. They don,t seem to do one for the 2.2ltr D/Cat engine. The d4d 2ltr engine is listed. Is it me who can,t read it right?

Sorry for late reply, I have been away for a few days. Yes the D4D D-Cat is listed. It raises the power to 212BHP and the torque to 480Nm. That is a hell of a hike in pulling power - plus 20%!

Try this address

www.steinbauer.cc/index.php?select_engine=877

If it doesn't work go onto the Uk website, passenger cars, vehicle selection, Toyota, RAV4 and the two 2.2 diesels are there. The one for yours is £499 + VAT. I have emailed them to ask how you go about buying one/fitting instructions etc. I will let you know when they reply.
