Windows Misting Up?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi all, does anyone have the same problems as me with the windows and front screen misting up on the new Rav4? mine seems to do it all the time and the only way to get rid is either open the windows or aircon.

This is fine now but what about when it gets really wet and during the winter! I understand that when i go the the gym and im overheating it will mist up the cabin but it happens all the time, I've never had a car with this sort of problem before, I also had it back to the dealers but they said it will be the differences in ouside & inside tempretures, ok I said when it was boiling but not now when its cooled down!

Anyone with any ideas or have the same problem as me? :crybaby:

I've got a 2006 Rav and mine doesn't do this. The only time it ever steams up is if I leave it on re-circulate with the A/C turned off - that'll start to mist after 10 minutes or so.

Might be worth checking that there is no water getting into the system anywhere - that's usually the cause. A colleague had a similiar problem on a different make (Seat, I think) which was caused by a badly fitted pollen filter at the back of the bonnet, which leaked water into the heating system and caused condensation.

Cheers Daern I will look into this, I've also noticed that switching the air vents off other than the one on the windscreen helps keep it de-misted.

Its just an outside chance but if the heater was leaking onto the carpets this would cause the windows to steam up :( , run your hand over the carpets to be sure.

A leaking windscreen or door seal is also possible...but the weathers been a bit to dry for that ! :) .

Good advice. I had an Escort with a leaky 'screen seal which caused the passenger carpets to get soaked and the windows to steam up. I solved it using a hair-dryer and part-exchange ;)

One other thing to check - A/C systems are meant to dump their condensation, usually on the floor. If the drain pipe for this is blocked, I suppose this could lead to the system not de-humidifying correctly...
