hey guys, ive had an unfortunate problem with a bottle of engine oil in the boot, in that it leaked all over my boot carpet and on to a patch of rust that i was goin to paint today. has anyone got any ideas as to how to get the oil out of the carpet and how to remove it from the rust patch as its soaked in and the paint requires a grease frree surface so that it adheres to it. :help::crybaby:

To the point, and funny :thumbsup:

i'd think washing up liquid rubbed in then rubbed off with a clean soft damp cloth a few times would work.

Jizer will get it out of the carpet. You can wash the boot out with it as well. Doesn`t leave any greasy residue so you should be ok to paint provided you give it a good going over. Perhaps twice to be on the safe side. . Don`t use gunk that does leave a residue.

I notice a few people selling boot carpets on eBay at the moment - nice easy option.

As for the painting, there are many spirit and solvent based degreasers availible, specifically desigened to clean surfaces prior to painting; try a DIY shop or motorfators. Also, you could just 'get medieval' on the rust patch, and sand/wire brush it off (with the oil) to the bare metal - this will give a good surface to prime and paint too.
