Please Help! Toyota Has Damaged My Car

Hey people! Just picked up my car from the toyota dealership where i had my 100k service. But when i got my car back it now has a big gash on the front of the bonnet.

What happened was when they were washing it the jet has blasted into a stone chip already there and therefore blasted the laquer off part of the bonnet. Not too happy because as you can understand i spend ages trying to keep it looking in top shape.

Now the problem is they haven't actually said they'll sort it out just that if i get the bonnet resprayed they'll knock some money off for what they did.

They've said this because i already had a few stone chips in it. So what can i do? Do they have to repair the whole damage or are they right in saying well there was already chips on it so we'll just knock some money off.

It has to get sorted as isn't nice to look at. But just wondering what should i do? Should i properly kick off what am i eligable to say what are my rights Please help guys!!!

did you ask them to jet wash it? if you did then you probably don't have a leg to stand on and taking the money is the best bet.

if you didn't ask them to wash it, then i believe its damage and ask for a full respray.

All Dealerships should prived a service wash when servicing a car.

I would recommend phoning in tomorrow (after 10 as we all have mettings in the morning) and ask to speak to the General Manager, ask him to rectify the problem they have caused.

If you get no joy from him on the phone by the end of the conversation ask him for the Head Office telephone number if they are part of a group, normally gm's don't want problmes from their dealership going up to head office and it will be sorted.

Would strongly recommend taking a photo of the damage ASAP and calling the GM ASAP ie tomorrow!!!

Don;t settle for part resolution, they caused the problem, it is up to them to resolve it not you, they will have a paint guy who comes in regularly so won't cost them much to put right!

Personally i would be persuing the FULL cost of putting it right.

They probably have some get out clause - all dealers seem to have this.

Have found that as soon as you threaten taking it up with trading standards, or get trading standards to contact them, they tend to forget about the get out clauses and repair the damage free of charge.

Don't know whether contacting your insurance company would be any good - claim for damage due to negligence.

I'm glad I dont work in Dealership that you have visited Mike, any allegations put forward to the dealership, as per get out clauses you would be surprised at how many people try and get away with things....

In this instance the dealership sound to be at fault and more than likely if approached correctly would be more than happy to reslve the issue wihtout it having to go further, we'll have to wait and see...

well looking at the picture thats a big stone chip, and its quite clear the clearcoat has been damaged by it.....

i wouldnt think you stand a chance, i dont think the dealer is to blame, and for them to offer to help cover the cost is quite thoughtfull

<the spuds of lurrrrvve>s!.. if the dealer saw the stone chip and thought they might damage it by washing it then they shoulnd't have washed it (or at least contacted the owner first to ask their permission)

as far as i see it, if the dealer has damaged the car in "any way" without explicit permission from the owner then they are fully responsible for repairing the damage (at the very least returning it to the way it was when it came into the garage)

any court in the land would find in favour of the owner in this instance.

They are getting away with murder for anything less than a free respay IMO.

IT IS THE DEALER'S FAULT WITHOUT A DOULT ! anyone thinks different are idiot.

you have strong case they admitted they use jet wash on your car and thats what course the damage to the paintwork and it doesn't matter how many stonechip's you have on there.

It is a fact jet wash CAN damage paintwork on car's, especialy on older car's,whoever used it on your car should of check the condition of your car's paintwork first before applying such a harsh method to wash your car, other people's on here has point out they shouldn't use jetwash on your car if they dont think your paintwork is upto it and i bet you they didn't even called you about the damage on your paintwork till you got there to pick up the car just before they close.

toyota dealer also damage my car when it was in for a service this is what happen :

My car was in toyota for is 3rd year service with about 21000 on clock when they gave me back the car told me i had a oil leak and the oil sensor has come off and cant put back in,i couldn't believe what i was hearing then i ask where is the oil leaking from ?,i was told around the sump and then i said to them if is leaking oil around the sump wouldn't i see it on the floor? and then they said " yes you would " i then told them my car park in my garage over night for the last three year's i had the car and i did not see any oil leak at all ,then another service person start opening there mouth and said to me your car also low on oil ,i couldn't believe the rubbish i am hearing,i then told them yesturday (sunday) i wash the car and also gave my car a good check before coming in today for a service and i have check the dip stick and the oil level it was spot on,at this point they have nothing to say, then i ask them how can the oil sensor come out of is place? can it come off during driving ? they think it was knock off by somebody who has work near that area, then i told them the only people who work on my car were toyota dealer's then they told me to go sorted out with the dealer who service my car last like 1 year ago, once again i couldn't believe what i was hearing so i said to them i will contact toyota GB about this situration which i did and now toyota GB are trying to fixed these two problem which i never had before i gone in for this service but still havn't got back to me yet.

i know how you feel you pay them to service the car and what do you get in return a damage car and looking at them trying to lie about it make me sick.

IF ANYONE'S CAR IS OUT OF WARRENTY DONT USE THEM FOR SERVICE

i can honestly say i will never used ANY toyota dealer's for service ever again ,i use them only to buy part's or majoy engine repaired.

hi,

thats bad news. :crybaby: hope it gets sorted.

at my last service i had not long had my alloys refurbed and painted black by a smart repairer. i knew the paint was new and soft, so i asked toyota not to jet wash the wheels just incase. they obeyed my request and only hand washed the alloys .

the thing is though, if i had not said anything to them they would of just jet washed them as they would not of known the paint may of came off..... but , they could see you had a massive stone chip and being in the trade should of realised that the jet wash could damage it....

they should of stayed well clear of the chipped area and reported to you that it needed repairing to keep your corrosion warranty intact.... after all, it was a service and they do a complete vehicle inspection.

good luck bert

Cheers for all your comments and advice people!

Well i went back on monday they again tried to sidestaep the situation saying there was already a stone chip. But like i said that isn't my fault its a thing that happens to cars and you being a garage should underdstand this.

Well no matter what they kept coming onto me with i just said "Look simply put i gave you my car with no damage there and now i have so can you put it right please?"

And i am pleased to say that on the 4th of September after taking the "Red Flame" (sorry thats what my mates have nicked named my cts) to France for a 2 week cruise around with my girlfriend, it is going back in for the bonnet to be resprayed.

Thank god

Cheers again.............................................PS one of the mechanics liked my mod!
