Ae82 1/4 Mile Times

hi, going to santapod this weekend in my corolla gt (ae82) was just wondering what sort of times i could be looking at? its stripped right out with no carpets back seats ect. standard engine, with very free flowing exhaust and air filter. also any tips as this is my first go at 1/4 mile. Im thinking of launching it at around 4k rpm and changing gears at around 7,200rpm. might even take my headlight out to help cool air get to the intake, and maybe run without a airfilter.

i'm hoping to get in the 15's

Running a similar engine to you in the MK1 MR2. The original engine was a Blue Top, but put a Red Top TVIS in when it went bang. Ha dto use all the bolt-on ancillaries from the original though to make the ECU/wiring loom work...

Started the day at Pod launching at 4k but found it way to boggy. Gradually increased launch RPM to about 6k to avoid it bogging down. Best time I managed was 16.2 not great by pro standards, but for a 1st attempt not too bad me thinks. I was also running road tyres on road pressures on a full tank of fuel.

You should get better times than that

Let us know how you get on B)

good effort guys 15secs is a very good time CTS's & CTR's dont do the 1/4 a lot quicker than that. i have also seen and escort cosworth run and that was only in the high 14's

keep it up

just spent the last 2 hours reading about nitrous kits, really thinking about it as its good power output for low £. think my car could take 50bhp of nitrous if only used on the odd acation. plus it will be better on fuel for the normal driving unlike cams and turbos ect. anyone on here got nitrous on there 4age? im thinking of directport wet kit, with a controler

A mate of our over on The MK1 MR2 club (Mong) is an agent for Wizard Of Nos. He has been running 100+hp jets on his 4AGE for a year now and gets consistant 13's on the 1/4. Bare in mind he only uses his nos for 1/4 mile and not road use. Infact Nos is not legal on the road and your insurance will be invalid.

Another mate (LimeyMk1) blew his engine using 20hp shots on the 4AGE. but then he had a fueling problem he wasn't aware of.

Two other mates (Tom & Si) were running 50hp shots on their 4AGZE's one with no problems and the other with some "issues" that made him remove the kit.

I have just installed Si's system on my g/f's MK1, but we are only running 10hp jets as it's a show car and the nos is mainly used for purge display. .We know her engine couldn't run on anything more. However, my track car will probably see 75hp jets next year. All kits I know on 4AGE/GZE's are not progressively controlled - just a micro switch for activation on WOT.

Best thing is to buy a kit and extra jets. Start small and increase depending on reliability. A full-on kit with a progressive controller will probably cost more than your car is worth, but I'm sure the fun factor will outweigh the costs :D Also you need to be prepared for engine failure, just in case things to go wrong.

I dont think it will cost more than its worth as i will be making the kit myself using industrial suppliers i use for work, plus as you say its fun and will make a good pass time

have just been reading about it for last 5 hours as g/f is out with her mates :D and now think 2 or even 3 stage nitrous is better than a electronic controler that pulses the solonids over a timed period. and is very easy to do.

Stage one say 20bhp (A single nitrous system)

Stage two say 40bhp (Another single pair of solenoids but jetted for twice the power)

Stage three open both the above pairs together...= 60bhp

First one on the throttle micro-switch, second stage on sterring wheel button which turns off stage 2, third stage on second button which turns both on.

You just need a couple of relays and some careful wiring!

this will be fun me thinks

got 10.93 in my red r32 skyline at usc, but the useless santa pod staff didn't update the times for class e until just before the awards were given out,the red corvette beat me with 10.77.if i had of known i was beat i could have done a few more runs, thanks santa pod.(my standard r33 gtr did 12.9).

nitrous oxide is legal if your insuance company know, try adrian flux

cool there fast times! I know nitrous is legal, i just could not be bothered to argue with the guy above who said it was not. I'm already covered for it on my corolla with the insurance as i added it when i added the roll cage and bigger brakes. soon as you talk about nitrous on cars people come out with all sorts, imho its safe as any turbo running high boost, if not more so as it only comes on when you switch it on and lets face it your not going to do it off a roundabout in the wet. found this site today http://www.turbobits.co.uk/ gave them a call, very helpful, looks good stuff for good money.

OK I might have been wrong on the legalities... :!Removed!:

One can only go on what information is given and unfortunately it's what our insurers have said...

BTW we have a private plate that reads "DIG NOS" if you're interested ;)
