Seems like im making a habit of crashing the day before my parents birthdays. I crashed my Aygo yesterday afternoon into a traffic island. And before you guys say you idiot blah blah boy racer etc... the reason was so that I could test the safety features:-

The airbags worked well, came out perfectly.

The seat belt pre-tensionsers definatley worked, as I can now strum a song on the passenger seatbelt.

My only complaint is that the Aygo doesn't go 80-0 in about 2 seconds when you hit the brake and the ABS kicks in.

Here are the pictures: http://s64.photobucket.com/albums/h190/Bad.../Aygo%20Damage/

Guess I will be taking to 2 wheels for a while until I can afford to fix it. Just pushed the bar across the front underneath of the car back a bit and the rad etc... Surprisingly the steering still goes in a strraight line.

Doesn't actually look so bad, I guess - the airbags and stuff are going to be the expensive bits :(

Still, the important bit is that you're okay. The car can be fixed, but its a little harder with people :D

:ffs: No wonder insurance for young people is so expensive :(

Were you the only vehicle involved? What possessed you to be doing 80 on a road with traffic islands

Why did you do that... Did you mean to crash it? Thats a shame. You know they do test the safety features before they leave the showroom. How much will it cost to fix

i think 80-0 is a figure of speach

no, im sure he was just trying to avoid being called an idiot. it wont work

Consider those safety features well and truly checked....

Hint for the future boys and girls - they have things called Crash Test Dummies which test for safety - you do not need to!

Alternatively, get me in the car and I will do it for you!:lol:

Shame, nice looking car.

i am an idiot

i have crashed my 4 month old car and it was entirley my own fault. My mum reckons im "burning the candle at both ends" and its another sleepy lose concentration accident

but hopefully i should have it fixed in a month or so.

Hit a traffic island instead of the back of a car because i was going too fast to stop in time. Stupid I know but im willing to face upto my actions. And I was joking about testing the safety features, I don't think anyone ever wants to find out what an airbag looks like.

It could happen to anyone!

Good for you in owning up to your mistake. I'm sure you'll learn from the experience and not make the same mistake twice.

Hope you get your car sorted soon.

Glad to hear you're ok and the aygo is a pretty safe car.

rebuilt a damaged repairable 206 a few years ago. It was written off by the insurers and in about the same state as your car and worth more when new.

The only reason we did that was we could get the airbag kit for 400 not >1K being charged by the dealer. Early posts are right the Airbag and pretensioners are expensive. In the case of the 206 the airbags and pretensioners were 'keyed' to the control unit so that needed replacing too, luckily that was fairly easy to get to, next to the handbrake.

good luck with it, the airbags weren't that much fun tbh.

You idiot! Lucky no one else was involved, luckily you are ok? You counted your braincells? Did you need both hands? ;)

BTW when I was younger use to work shifts and go to the Hacienda every other Thursday night (it was a club in Manchester) but I totalled my car on the way home one night, :ffs: I did n't need both hands to count my brain cells  you take care :)

Glad you are OK.

Sometimes its luck of the draw. I had similar damage on my Rover 216Si (although the airbags didn't go off). The cause of the damage was the Roe Deer that decided to to leap out in front of me and the car about 30 yard in front of me at 40MPH. Needless to say it was the last thing the deer ever did, but it did bring me home the fact how little damage can occur on the car in an accident of this nature.

Since the accident I have tried to be more aware of what is going in front of me. Obviously keeping below the speed limit helps, especially in built up areas, but that isn't always going to prevent the accident, just reduce its impact.

glad you are good m8 well the car it's the less important now first us then the car but for what i can see it wasn't that much in the outside well be cool and good luck with the repair

Im fine with the fact that I will need to fix up the front underneath of the car and probably replace the fan on the radiator as it is cracked a bit, but I dread to think how much the airbags and stuff are going to cost. Hopefully I can get it cheap as my cousin used to work for toyota so he knows people.

Is that not the reason we have insurance.................................Please tell me that you were insured fully comprehensive on such a new car.

It must be worth claiming (and loosing your no claims bonus) for what would appear to be such an expensive repair. It really does not look like a "Do it yourself" repair as alignments will have to be checked.

it may well be false economy to attempt to get it repaired on the cheap

Glad to hear that you are O.K. and hope that you get it repaired soon and take more care in the future

im sorry to hear that :crybaby: i have been talking to my toyota dealer about the abs as in my opinion it kicks in too frequently ( well here its the **** street surface thats the reason) but he was blaming the wider tyres for it! !i have new yoko avs sports now and its still thesame ) i was even thinking of disconnecting it (removing the ABS fuse)! i know you could still steer the car with the abs on (while without you would simpli crash straight on) but not everyone will be able to do that in split seconds! this is my first car with abs and im not very happy with the system! :ffs: as it nearly made me crash a couple of times! :censor:

good luck for te repairs!

I think with modern brake electronics, especially the EBD on the Aygo, it is a mistake to assume you can do better without it.

Perhaps the only one exception is if you are in deep snow, but even then the gain will be marginal.

It wont just be a case of replacing the airbags, but the whole steering wheel, as once the airbags go off, it'd more than likely be unsafe to replace the airbag as the seal has been broken on the steering wheel, plus the car knows when the airbags have been deployed and will probably need resetting.

As Steve (Red_Yaris_54) says, you are better off getting this fixed professionally - do not botch job it. Your car is a hunk of metal that can kill someone, dont let it be you because it was fixed up unprofessionally. Take a hit on your insurance, let them assess the safety of the car and get someone to repair the damage.

You'll lose your no claims and your insurance will go up but at least you'll be driving a guaranteed well repaired car!

i am going to get it done properly. but whatever can be done by myself i will do. But i cant be bothered with going through the insurance. My mums no claims bonus of ten years and because of my mistake i dont want her to lose it. besides my excess is high.

If you are on your mums insurance she will only loose 2 or 3 years of no claims bonus so at worst drop to 7 years NCB but still full discount.

I had a crash a few years ago and had 8 years NCB, when I got my renewal through it had dropped to 6 years NCB and the premium cost only went up £75! My claim was for over £6000 too!

Go through the insuance company!

I'm going to see what the extent of the damage is tomorrow anyway by a mechanic, so I will see then. If it is a simple repair then I will get it done and pay for it out my pocket but if its really a lot then I will re-assess my situation.

Had my car looked at today, and it needs a new sub-frame and arm. Very gutted. Gonna cost buckets but thankgod I didn't bust up the radiator and stuff.
