Had my car looked at today, and it needs a new sub-frame and arm. Very gutted. Gonna cost buckets but thankgod I didn't bust up the radiator and stuff.

It sounds if you had some luck there  :P

I crashed my Aygo yesterday afternoon into a traffic island. And before you guys say you idiot blah blah boy racer etc... the reason was so that I could test the safety features:-

My only complaint is that the Aygo doesn't go 80-0 in about 2 seconds when you hit the brake and the ABS kicks in.

Were you the only vehicle involved? What possessed you to be doing 80 on a road with traffic islands

i think 80-0 is a figure of speach

Why did you do that... Did you mean to crash it?

no, im sure he was just trying to avoid being called an idiot. it wont work

im sure if he was really doing 80 then he wudnt live to tell the tale, and the damage wud be far worse dont u?

His words :P

You wouldn't be doing 80 at impact but travelling at too high a speed could have been the contributing factor that led to the crash.

word of advise, go through your insurance, pay your excess as it will be less then footing the whole bill yourself

and most importantly

get mr t to fix it, that way you don't loose any paint corrosion warranty and also the aygo is new car most mechanics don't have a clue what to do with it, trust me i know i got my aygo fixed at mr t after a accident, did very good job.

Ouch, sorry to hear that mate we all make mistakes anyway, some are just worse than others.

I work in Motor Insurance Claims so if you do go down that route and need help then give us a shout - I don't do anything to do with Policy Costs or NCB tho

Oh great. A question then. Is it ok not to tell the insurance I had the accident and get it repaired (like my plan at the moment)?

My cousin's mate has priced up the work for me. Its the subframe, arm, airbags and pretensioners. Which will come to about 2000 quid all in. He works for Toyota so he knows his stuff. If you were to go through the garage it would cost in excess of 4000 pounds however.

If it is costing £2k "on the side" would it not be better to just get it done through the insurance? The excess and loss of no-claims would probably not cost £2k.

An "official" cost to fix of £4k makes your car close to being written off

Officially you should tell the insurance company as you've had an accident. If you don't and they find out they "could" refuse you cover in the event of a claim. Check the small print.

As previously said by myself and others on here, get it done through the insurance. I really cannot understand your reluctance to get it done "properly" (on such a new car)

Depending on who you are with, the point at which a car becomes an unecomical repair is 40%.

If the car is less than 1yr old your insurance company will probably replace the car with a brand spanking new one anyway....

Official Answer: No it's not ok, you should report it for information only & say you are not claiming. Did you damage any property? I.e bollards or anything? If you did then you'd definately have to report it incase the Property Owners made a claim....not everyone see's it that way and even if they do most people choose not too.....so it's entirely upto you..

Im claiming anyway i have already said that. But anyway the bollard wasn't damaged, it just popped back up.
