My Corolla Problems

Hi there,

I have a 2001 corolla 1.4vvti (twin headlamps). I have just been for a 80,000 mile service and it has turned up the following problems. :crybaby:

£180 New front o/s wheel bearing

£308 New inlet manifold

£280 New rear shocks

£208 New exhaust heat shield

Has anyone else had this kind of problem because it is really turning me off my Corolla and indeed Toyota in general. Maybe this is just a problem with getting services at a Toyota main dealer? I currently use Knaresborough Toyota - anyone know of problems with them telling you your car needs a bunch of stuff that it doesnt.

Is this kind of work correct for a car of this age?

Cheers,

Pete.

80,000 miles is a fair few miles. if its had alot in the boot , and driven quickly over speed humps alot this could be the reason why the parts have failed.

I havent driven it particularly quickly over speed humps but the size of the speed humps round my way is just stupid they are far far too big - plus I have to go over them on the way to and from work.

As for the inlet manifold - its just damn noisy - as I understand it a slight problem with this car. Its not urgent priority but I am beginning to struggle to put up with the noise day in day out.

I dont think I can cope with it failing its MOT twice in a row! :help:

The inlet manifold is a warranty item IF it had been reported before the 3 year/60,000 mile deadline... I've seen some on eBay so have a look from time to time if you're not in a rush... As for the other items, I can't see any problem! ...apart from the price! Go to an independent garage!

£208 for a heat shield, they are taking the P!

I'd go to your local friendly garage and ask them for a quote i can't believe it needs all that doing unless its been clocked.

Which heat shield is it?

Manifold or underbody one. Nether of which cost £208 !
