Spending Some Money On The T-sport

Hi all,

Im looking at spending about £2-3K on improving t-sport with new suspenshion, better tyre's etc.

My question is l dont know whats good and whats crap in terms of suspenshion kits. And do l need to do anything else to the car if l mod the suspenshion?

Also what else could l do to the car with that kind of money ? (Bear in mind im not a fan of rude boy cars) l just want my car to look pritty much standard on the outside so l dont attract to much attention.

One other thing im sure im going to have to declare these mod's to the insurance company am l going to get violated by them for these kinda of mod's ?

Cheers

Hi all,

Im looking at spending about £2-3K on improving t-sport with new suspenshion, better tyre's etc.

:D ok, first of all good on ya for investing, the t-sport aint that great out of the box but show it some cash and it will fly. Firstly how hardcore do you want to go, anything you can do to shed weight is gonna be a winner, ditching back seats, spare wheel etc.

As stock the suspension sucks quite frankly, look at cusco primarily as you'll pick up a set with adjustable camber plates for a reasonable price.. failing that KW do a great set of coilovers but you will need expert setup to get them just right.. Make sure and include an uprated rear anti roll bar in this, as the rear will still roll, and lift the inside front tyre a bit, making it hard to get the power down on corner exit. An LSd would be my next choice, it would help the corner exit aswell but the antiroll bar is first.

With the rest of the money an exhuast/filter are a must... then a power fc, drop the Lift engagement point to 5500rpm, and have it properly rolling road tuned, there is a lot of midrange power to be had. For tyres, use yokohama parada spec-2's if you can, havent seen anything that beats them at there price level.

Also forgot to mention if its a japanese import your exhaust routing is slightly different so euro back boxes wont fit without some fiddling, but it does mean you can use all those lovely jap backboxes.

i was told on here that you couldn't adjust the lift engagement.

the lift engagement will not give you as much of a kick if you get it done lower down, in the compressor there is no kick at all because you are always running higher pressure in the inlet manifold than ambient.

ie although the charger gives you 0.9bar of boost, your actually running 1.9bar (absolute boost) this is because you have 1 bar atmospheric pressure all the time.

the lift exists because the engine gets asmatic as the RPM increases so at higher revs it leaves the valves open for longer and with more overlap to allow for easier breating.

i'm digressing but basically at a certain point it becomes detrimental to have the lift kick in early, I reckon its probably somewhere around 4000RPM. so at 5500RPM it'll probably be okay.

How easy is it to get the the lift engagement altered, and would it be worth remapping the ECU ?

As far as i know only power-fc can adjust the lift engagement, perhaps camcon can aswell, i'm not sure.. the whole thing would need to be mapped, once for low cam and once again for high cam., then, workout the crossover.

So far it looks like im going to buy:

New suspenshion

New Struts (l think l need a front one to help with handing)

New shocks

Camber plates (not sure what they are but might as well spend the money on them)

ECU remapping (might take it to van arken its near where l live)

Cant think of anything else l need to get?

Can u ?

i'd add an induction kit and a good exhaust system to all that. should even help when you come to remap the ecu.

That sounds like a sweet setup. Let us all know how the transformation goes when you get each bit done!

Oh and sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you had better be prepared to drop trou and touch your toes when it comes to telling Mr Insurance broker what youve got in mind  . - its probably not going to be pretty...

best of luck with the project!

  • 4 weeks later...

Thourght l would give my thread a bit of a update...

l have spent some some money !!

l got Black Diamond Performance disks (grooved/drilled) and the performance pads. I've only had them in a few days and even on light breaking while they bed in l can notice a hell of a diffrence from those factory standard ones.

My next purchase will be some new rubber !! - l need some help in deciding which tyre to go for l want a blend between grip and long life (but more to the grip side of things, just cant keep my foot off that right pedel  hehe) l want to get 205/50/R16 because l want to keep the original alloys on the car.

Also l did my own service on the car for the first time (owwaww l hear you saying) It was soooooo cheap £60 for (Air filter, Spark Plugs, Oil Filter and Fully Sinthetic Oil) she is running so smooth on the new oil its now a dream to cruse in the car.

I thought the standard wheels were 195's

How much were the new discs?

As for tyres I can't really recomend anything as I'm still yet to find a set that I've been happy with.

But is worth looking online as the tyre are alot cheaper even if you have to pay seperatly to have them fitted.

www.mytyres.co.uk is worth a look.

The disks were £225, which included both front disks and pads.

The standard tyres are 195's but l have heard that you can put 205's on the orginal alloys.

Thanks for the link l will check it out tomorrow at work - Hehe

Previously had 205/50/16 Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my TSport...Changed the car since, but could not fault them. Tons of extra grip.

I have fitted 205 50 ZR16 Falken FK451's on my corolla and they are much gripier than the standard michelin's especially in the wet.

Don't expect them to last as long though.

Only £55 each from

www.camskill.co.uk

And if you really want to improve the car I would spend your money on some new shocks or even just springs the T Sport is to soft / wallowy in standard form...
