Several Celica Questions

Hi,

I'm hoping that you can help me with the following questions about the 7th. generation Celica ! ( I'm thinking of getting one soon )

1. I understand that the Celica is to dropped from the Toyota range soon, does anyone have any idea when ?

2. I know that the earlier 7th. generation models had oil consumption problems, has it now been sorted ?

The other car being considered is a Hyundai Coupe, what is your opinion of them, compared to the Celica. My favourite is the Celica, but the Hyundai on paper looks pretty good !!!!

not sure about Q's 1,2 but :!Removed!: don't buy a hyundai :jawdrop: If you test drive both, i'd imagine you notice a world of difference in quality, handling, power....everything. although i must admit the newer Hyundai coupes are not ugly.

I was tempted to a Hyundai and took one for a spin. Its nice enough but i like my new gen 6 a lot more, feels a lot more solid. Was a lot cheeper too :D

I believe they've stopped making the gen7's now , so i guess when the stock runs out thats it ? Never heard of any oil consumption probs with gen7's TBH the gen6 ST has a fe probs but i've never heard of a gen7 with it ???

My mate bought a new 1.6 (ghey) Hyundai coupe in black and i was really quite impressed with it , ok i slate him for buying it but its actually a good looking car and put together a lot better than i thought.........just dont buy the 1.6 !

My (2000) Gen 7 had severe oil problems. All fixed now though. :) Having looked around before and after there do appear to be problems with early Gen 7s but I have not heard of problems with later models.

I considered a Hyundai Coupe too. They look great. I just wish they didn't have a Hyundai Badge on them...

Even Toyota cant match Hyundai for reliability! 5 year warranty is impressive. Its the Badge thats the problem! Everything else is more spot on than you would imagine mate! I would go for Celi though after all that!

1. Correct. I think Toyota dealers stop selling them brand new at the end of the year. I don't think they are stopping making them, just not bringing them here, as there is no market for them in comparison with the Yaris and Corolla in the UK. Servicing support will probably go on for many years to come, so don't worry about that...

2. Correct. Seems there was a bad batch, do enough searching on this site, and you can find the VIN ranges that were affected. There is also an unwritten thing that if you have this problem and your car has FTSH and is under 5 yrs old you can get it done as a warrenty thing. You may have to kick up a fuss with Toyota GB to get it sorted though. Shouldn't put you off buying the car though, most are absolutely fine.

The Hyundai is ok, probably worth taking one for a spin. I'll urge you to look think about selling / swapping further down the line. The Hyundai will be worth nothing, the Celica will still be worth a bit. Also, Hyundai are also still learning about Coupe, Toyota have had it nailed for years!

I agree, that 5yr warrenty is very attractive and the new ones are quite good looking! but everytime I see one I wish the designer had been working at toyota or honda. To get 165bhp and an 8.2sec 0-60 time, you need to get the 2.7 V6 24v :o.......the 2.0 only has 140bhp......very dissapointing! Handling, I don't know, i'd have to drive one. but you siad you'd go for the celi so thats ok

Pretty poor engines then really! Not at all impressed with 60 time for a v6! My calibra would do 7.5 60 dash and thats was only 2.5l 167bhp! I do like the new coupe design, but hated that first one with a passion!

There is no choice or argument, celi or coupe CELI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many thanks for the replies.

It seems that the Celica is the way to go, rather than the Hyundai.

What ever I do i'll let you know.:rolleyes:

Good choice but probably not the best place to ask mate if you wanted an unbiased opinion!!!!!

Well keep a way from the Hyundai, the only one to go for would be the 2.7, but that is very very thirsty and heavy, they are not as nimble as the G7 Celica either.

My G7 has just been written off, I had it almost 3.5 years and guess what I am replacing it will, another Celica :). I have driven many cars over the last couple of weeks and have yet to find a driving position and handling that equals the celica in the price range.

If you go for a Celica than make sure its the VVTLi version.

The only Celicas with oil problems were the early 140s (1999 -2001/2), So they would most likely be over 5 years old, so therefore out of warranty
