Avensis 1.8GS ® has strong odour of petrol and leaks a little.

Want to drop tank and fix till new tank fitted.

1. Has anyone replaced the tank themselves and how hard was it (I've got a fair amount of experience of mechanics).

2. Did your exhaust drop off when you did it or did you get round this some other way?

3. Where are tanks avaiable cheaper than £208 from Toy Oh Ta!

Cheers me dears.

Haynes manual aint out till September so any help greatly appreciated.

Ta!

Taff. :help:

If only a small leak why not just use Epoxy Resin repair putty. I've used it a couple of times over the years. It provides a permanent repair. It would certainly solve the problem until the Haynes manual comes out and/or you can source a cheaper tank from a dismantler.

That's the plan. Dopey here, having said that I was "an ok mechanic" jacked the car up on the side of the leak and then couldn't find it  . I know roughly where it is and it is a small leak so there is a roll of petrol proof epoxy waiting to cover the leak. Thanks for the tip, appreciate your feedback.

When you find the leak (which will only be a pinprick) make sure you create a depression around the hole to give the resin an uneven surface to bind to.
