2007 Avensis Audio System

Seeing as it's hard to fit any other make of car audio in an Avensis the Toyota system needs to be pretty good. In the pre-2007 model it is OK but sadly lacks MP3 and auxiliary connections unless you Shell out for a Dension link or something.

I see that the new T-Spirit and T-180 have an in-dash 6 CD changer and the head unit plays MP3 cds. Does this mean the CD changer also plays MP3?

Is there an aux socket for iPods like the new Lexus IS200?

Amazing - 98 views and no-one knows the answer? I'd have thought this would be important in these top of the range motorway cruisers but nobody, including a tame salesman, seems to know. :(

I see that the audio has automatic sound levelling though - that should remove the irritation of turning it up manually to drown the road noise then getting blasted out when you slow down. :)

Sound in my 3003 T3S was OK but in my week old 2007 model D4D 2.2 T3X it's much improved. Single CD but it plays MP3 and WMA files. Amp much more powerful, Speakers better and the auto sound levelling seems to work. Regrettably no input for an MP3 player which is a shame. I also went for the technology pack, DAB radio and bluetooth capability, both of which are really neat. Of general note the ride is much smoother and quieter in the new car, and with less rattles in the cabin. Couldn't afford the T180 which I borrowed overnight from my local dealer. Probably just as well because I still have my licence. Getting past 50mph lorries in 4th gear was particularly impressive. The improvements to the latest car appear to have worked although it is dearer than for an equivalent older model.

Thanks Tony - that answers 50% of the question. No auxilliary iPod socket is a mean omission these days on a car of this price and calibre.

The other question is - When you had the T180 on test did you notice if the CD changer plays MP3/WMA files?

I'd say 99% yes. The handbook for my car covers 3 different radio/cassette/CD/CD multichanger combinations with my single CD being type 2. The one in the T180 was either like mine or the multichanger, all of which I'm sure play MP3/WMA files. Still no socket that I could see for a seperate MP3 player.

Tony, I wonder if you can help me. My new car is coming next week. New model T4 Avensis with technology kit. I see there is a mic on roof to the right of rear view mirror. Also there appears to be a glass mounted antenna, but when i switched on my bluetooth on my Nokia 6230i and searched for the cars bluetooth, it found nothing. My question is, how do you switch on the bluetooth ? Do I need something else ?
