where abouts in the west country are you mate? might be able to help.

i work in walsall

Thanks for the kind offer earlp. Since the Yaris is still under warranty, I put it in the hands of the local Toyota dealer, who drained the system, flushed, replaced filters etc., and refilled with unleaded. SORRY, I mean diesel. :)

The cost? £150. Expensive for a simple mistake, but I suppose it could have been worse.

Thanks for all the useful advice guys. Now I have to talk to the culprit who put the wrong juice into the car! :censor:

Can I just say it was a bit silly taking it to Mr T. When I did this to my car and the RAC came out he said NEVER tell the main dealer especially if under warranty as it will most likely void your warranty as if you take it back with an engine problem they'll attribute it to your fuel error and say it's not covered.

That would be an interesting line to take after I'd asked them to make good any damage caused.

  • 5 months later...

When my brother was learning to drive he had a lesson cancelled because someone had filled his instructor's diesel car with petrol.

I remember Police Camera Action showing a clip of someone smokescreening a road after filling up with Diesel. A friend of mine claimed this happened to his parents after an attendant assumed their fully loaded Sierra Estate was a diesel. I think it was spotted quickly & they diluted it was petrol, but it can do a lot of damage if not sorted quickly.
