Nokia Mobile - Car Kit Advice

Just got a Nokia 6234 candy bar phone. Can anyone suggest a good place to fix a holder on the dash of my Jan 05 Hatchback, and recommend a suitable holder. There is very little clear real estate and the Dealer kits all put the handset way over the pax side low down. I know you can get airvent thingies from Tesco but I prefer air to come out of the vents unrestricted. ( its been hot recently!!) Also don't like rubber suckers as I've got one for my GPS and am worried about the local pond life smashing their way in looking for goodies.

If I do get a smarter car kit, how do I get behind the radio to fit wiring to car Speakers and mute the radio etc.

Your best bet is to go to your local mobile phone fitter and get the special mounting bracket that fits your year of avensis. These are about £15. You should also be able to get the telemute kit from them. This saves having to cut any of the cables on the back of the stereo. All you do is take out the wiring loom from the back of the radio and fit the telemute kit. You can then put the wiring loom into the telemute kit and it provides a breakout for the nokia car kit. Saves a lot of time and hassle. Once I figured out how to take the stereo out is took me about 20 minutes to fit the kit. As my avensis is a 2002, I am not sure how your stereo comes out (Sorry). Hope the rest helps though!!!

There are some instructions here:

I did this recently to add an IceLink iPod car kit (recommended, btw - it's the one that connects to the back of the existing FM Aerial input on the radio), and it was a little daunting pulling the trim off, but it worked out fine. You need a decent Philips head screwdriver for the screws in the dash, preferably one with a magnetic head since they are quite deep and prone to falling inside the dash if you're not careful.
