Black Box

Afternoon all, been poking about a bit more and ive found a black box floating around under the drivers seat and im wondering what it is. Couldnt see it very well in the semi-dark so not sure if it has any markings on it yet. Its about 6 inches by 4 and has a connector going into 1 end and the wireing goes off under the carpet. Doesnt look like its an addon, but cant think why or what something would be doing there. Any thoughts?

Amp for the stereo i believe .

for my 1995 gt4 it was used to control the central locking via the key fob.

Ahh interesting, i'll have another poke at it later. If its an amp, is there any way to bypass it without chopping the connector off? Im sure my kenwood MP3 head would sound better on its own.

Stranger and stranger.

Just pulled the connector out of the black box and turned the ignition on. Radio still works, engine still starts, doors still lock with the key and i dont have a remote locking thingy anyway.

While i had it out i checked it over and there are no markings on it at all, so its a mistery box!

What kind of connection is it? Is there any writing on the cable that goes to it? Any chance of a photo?

Here are a few pics, taken with my phone so not great sorry. After pulling the lid off it im starting to think its for remote locking, like Mr Booster said, but the remotes have got lost somewhere along the line. A trip to Mr T would seem to be in order to see about some replacements.

Somewhere I read that it was unique to import models, but I could be wrong.

Did you ever find out from Mr T the answer to the mystery?

If it is to do with remote central locking is it something to do with a small dome shaped black button type thing on the dashboard by the windscreen? I've always taken this to be the remnants of an alarm or security sytem thingy. But an infra red sensor would fit the bill.

They said it could well be a central locking reciever, but you cant get the key fobs from them any more as the company that made them went bust :(

I will prolly just get an alarm fitted and wired into the central locking sometime.

The black button thing on the dash is a sun load detector for the aircon system i believe.

black thing on the dash could also be the reciever for the remote locking fob.
