Hello every body peeps

I've got a 54 reg Avensis ( nice car n all...but) do you also find it weird that you have to turn the volume on the stereo up to about 30 to be able to hear anything reasonably....

Or is this a fault? :(

Not really, I think it goes to 50 from memory, I usually have it 20-35 depending on how loud I want it.

Generally as background music about 24 ish I think (But I'll double check today)

The only exception is Radio 4 which seems very quiet, and I have to really crank it up for that station - then I get blasted when I change to a different station

What is slightly odd (more a characteristic of the speaker set up) is there is no midrange. Reasonable quantities of bass and loads of treble, but nothing in the middle. I do find I tend to turn it up a bit in order to hear the midrange vocals / conversation etc. I think this is what you are finding. Your head is quite close to the door tweeters and behind your head it's the tweeters mounted forward and high up on the passenger doors, the main Speakers in the front doors seem to be throwing out more bass than midrange and is swamped out a bit by the tweeters. So consequently there is not much 'weight' to the vocals and they appear receded on the 'sound stage'.

I have a T4 too - slightly off topic you don't have this quiet but audible high frequency electronic whistle (like tuning a manual knob radio) when driving at 40 MPH do you?

My '53 T-Spirit has I think, 10 Speakers and yet I find that the treble or high frequency response is somewhat lacking especially on Radio 4 where the speech sound dull and "chesty"even on Treble setting at 5 max.m.

I suppose that could be attributed, partly, to my "advanced" age!

Local radio will be ok when only presenters are talking, but as soon as they play a telephone interview I have to raise the volume. Problem their end, not mine!

Not really - the volume range is 0-63. 63 in binary is 111111 (6 bits). Obviously the volume level is stored in a 6-bit register in the stereo's electronics.

Ah! There are 10 types of people in this world. :D

I find it depends on the source and also, when using the radio, the station. When I feel like being patronised and Radio 3 is on, the volume needs to be about 60. R4 I have at about 35. When I'm using my mp3 player, it's back up to 60. CD around 40.

Mine seems to do the full range okay but me ears are probably shafted from too many concerts!
