ok so 8 months and 800 quid later my Gen4 is on the road... Yay!!! Well I use that term loosely.. I've actuall driven it for three straight days without going back to the garage and handing over more money...

The list.

New exhaust. 163 quid.

Rear pads 36 quid.

Rear discs 160 quid.

wiper linkage 163 quid.

various other bits and pieces..

A tyre. 205 45 16 A whopping 125 quid.

Now I have to go back and have new pads and shoes fitted on the rear because the old discs shagged them.

The problem now is that I think I might need new calipers too. I have been quoted 138 per side.

My question. Will the calipers from a Gen5 fit the Gen4??? I know the front are different because the Gen4 Has bigger discs.

Also I'm overheating in traffic and fine when actually getting the wind in her grill. The overflow is bubbling a good one unless I switch the heater on. Any ideas???

Cheers in advance.

Cris

brakes im not sure of, it is possible theyll fit.

as for the overheating check the cooling fan and associated fuses. easiest way is pull the plug of the cooling fan switch, i think its located in the bottom rhs of the rad, when disconected the fan should start (with ignition on) if it dosent then check fuse and fan itself.

also for parts try TCB (toyota celica breakers), if you do a search their number is on here

Kewl... Thanks.. Will give them a try... As for buying a newer one???? I'd rather have an older one but this'll do... Nearly bought an 06 Hyundai Coupe the other week.. Sorted it all out and got home.. Sat in mine one last time before breaking it.. Thought bugger that I'm keeping her... I just can't bring myself to sell it.. Too fast for too little... And everybody turns to look at it because they're so rare now...

Proper car mate.

I've always loved the Gen 4.......and from the pics yours looks like a good one.

Have you looked into getting the calipers refurbed? there are plenty of places that can do this for a fraction of the price of new ones.......after all it's taken 8 months to get to this stage so what's another small delay?

Flushing the coolant system might help with the overheating problem, but as Lee said it's more than likely something electrical to do with the fan on a car of this vintage . Good luck with it .

Zilli. The ST162 and St182 do share the same rear calipers. Brakes International do them for 65.53 + VAT each.

For somewhere more local try Partco/Unipart down on riverway. Don`t know if you know the guys down there. If not tell `em Big Martin sent you down. (Usually helps to bump the price up) They should iirc be able to do Blueprint ones for around the 70-80 squids mark. Especially if you tell them they`re cheaper at Lucas. ;)

Hey guys thanks for the help... I think I'll have to get new but will go to partco... She's in the garage at the mo having another new set of pads and shoes fitted... There is a gen5 at rookley breakers so I'm gonna go get the calipers off that and keep hold of them for future possible uses... Shame the sunroof is different as mine has the age old rust problem.,... Gonna take her for a spin this afternoon and make the most of my week off before heading back to london on a daily basis in a crap astra van for work...lol

Cheers

Stunning car mate. ..well worth all the money and effort you are putting her way. Dont let her down now.

Gen 4s are great cars, an ex boyfriend of mine had one, I fell in love with the car more than him  and that then sent me on the Celica road and I have never looked back.

When I think about it most of my boyfriends have owned Toyota's...2 celicas, 1 Gen 6 and a Gen 4 and a Sera....I think there could be a pattern emerging here.

Anyway to get back on track

While you`re down the scrappies it`s worth remembering most of the mechanical parts between the two will be identical. So if you need any more parts now`s the time. Celicas and scrap yards are a rare combo on the island.

Just to do an update... Just had a call from the garage... Guess what!!!!!

The shoes they ordered from Toyota don't fit... They've spent the afternoon trying to get the hubs back on but to no avail... So now they've had to order another set from Toyota... SO........ The long and short of it is I don't get the flipping car back yet cos it's still in bits...

Damnagit!!!!!!!

Nice one... Cheers for that mate... I need a new alternator too so might as well get that... The guy scrapped it because the head gasket blew and couldn't be bothered to get it done...
