After much consideration of if I should down size my engine, I currently drive a Renault Clio 172 which I have had for 3 expensive years!!With tax now £190 a year and petrol 99p a litre I thought it would be a good idea. I got in touch with my local dealer and arranged a two day test drive. Picked it up yesterday(Aygo + with aircon)and first impressions were good. Big smile on my face having lots of fun around town, found it very zippy and got used to the noise of the 3 cylinder engine which grew on me after a while!!.

Last night I took my girlfriend out in it and she loves it. She was suprised how quickly it gets to national speed limit and how it handles on the slim road tyres. We drove around for an hour and a half, taking a mixture of A-roads, country lanes, and city centre. What really impressed us was the cruising ability on motorway. Not going to tell you how fast, but it was ample even after driving a 2.0 litre 172 bhp car for 3 years.

Would I buy one?

I love the look and style of the Aygo, but I dont know if it feels like a guilty pleasure??? Some people I have shown it to just dont get the concept of the car. Some people I felt were finding it slightly amusing when I drove to football on Sunday to see 4 grown men in an Aygo. Coinsideltly I couldnt honestly feel the difference to when I drove it alone!!!Amazing really.

Problems I have found in 2 days of driving:

1. Seats are very slipperey!!!Have to hold on tight. Have you fitted any other seats to the Aygo?

2. Air recirculation/Fresh air selector on centre console seems to have a mind of its own.

3. toe and heel not possible with these pedles(What do you mean its not important!!)

Have to make my mind up in next couple of weeks, but I can see the massive appeal that this car gives to you people on here. It is a real drivers car because it doesnt flatter you like most modern cars, you have to drive using the throttle mid corner using delicate inputs of steering to balance the car which has very neutral handling and tends to drift instead of understeer which is good.

Loved the experience thanks to Toyota.

it has been mentioned about the pedals before and a couple of people have changed them and seemed to have got around that "problem".

And yes, although the seats are comfortable you can slip sideways when cornering. Quick fix to this is to wear rubber trousers or wrap rubber bands instead of a belt (not personally tried this method).
