Jetex Panel Filters

Hi folks,

First posting on here, and a question about the first possible mod to my oil burning Yaris.... Sorry, I know we've been here before on the filters thing.

Been looking at the Jetex air filter replacement for the standard panel. Is this thing likely to stuff up my MAF sensor or cause any other load of grief? Can't seem to find any details on their website about it being wet/dry. If it is a wet filter, what's the crack with its maintenace?

Any feedback from other folks much appreciated! :)

Cheers,

ChrisC.

No bother, its a good question.

Thus far, after about 30,000 miles with the filter installed (and having cleaned it twice in that time) then I have had no problems.

The filter is "wet", but all that means is that to clean it every 10,000 miles you spray it with air filter cleaner spray (expensive soap  ), rinse it through from "back" to "front" and then let it dry overnight. Once its dry you re-coat it with filter oil. I've kept my oem filter to slot in for the 24 hours or so it takes to rinse, dry and re-oil the filter.

I would buy the oil (its a sort of spray can) from jetex btw. I didn't and could only find the red K&N stuff. This means that my blue filter is a sort of browny colour :D You're cheaper with the Jetex stuff too...

I hope that's some sort of help,

Alan

Well folks...

I've put a Jetex filter in, done 6k miles on it to date without problems. There's no major increase in anything, except that the first 1/2 second of sudden acceleration is a bit more interesting.

The Jetex folks are brilliant to deal with. The filter they list for the D4D didn't fit 2005 model. Sent it back and got another by return of post. My motor takes the same filter as the 1.0 petrol.

Since then, I've also stuck on a tuning box from javorb31101966 on eBay. Gradually worked it up to full bore over the 3 weeks it's been installed. Again, done almost 2k miles in that time without trouble. No black smoke. My MPG has dropped by from my usual 63MPG to 61MPG on the last full tank, but it's worth it for the extra torque on the 80miles of country a-roads I drive to work on each day.

Also can't fault this guy - fast devliery, good installation instructions and help on the 'phone.

Next time I go on a 550mile round trip to the south coast, I'll try setting it on the lowest setting - see if I can beat the 70-75MPG I got the last couple of runs down there. ;o)

ttbfn,

ChrisC.
